It is a risk, but a risk that is needed.  With sales down compared to Black Ops and Battlefield 3 doing well, they need to take a risk or CoD could fall from it's throne. 

Will it pay off?  That has yet to be seen.  But if it does, it could rival CoD 4.

I think it it'll do great/ I support 3ARC through every one of their CoD games, they'll pull it off. I can promise it

Is a risk, MW3 started it and failed with it. BO2 is doing REAL future and I think it will be incredible.

The campaign can be as far fetched as it likes as long as the multiplayer is still the same .

I think it is a big risk but be honest, wont you buy the game just to see and because its call of duty and even if this game sucks wont you still go and buy the next installment next year. They are likely relying on franchise loyalty.

13 years ahead, I'd say just right, and to be honest, they aren't too far from the real future you guys might think.

I for one am looking forward to this game. However Call of Duty is getting too much ahead of itself, and too fast.

One thing I have always been a little critical of was how inconsistent the franchise is. This is why the brand is generally seen as a money maker.

I reckon this should be the last Call of Duty, and group this title and the ones previous something like 'prior' call of duty.

Then a brand new game should be developed called 'Call of Duty' as a rebirth. And the brand should be made only by one developer, and a new game should NOT come out yearly. Lets say Call of Duty is a modern shooter and big dlc drops including story extensions is added yearly. The smaller DLC is free for Elite users but the bigger ones are only cut in price slightly for elite users. This is my opinion on how Call of Duty should be marketed now anyway.

I've been hoping they would take CoD into a near future setting, but I was surprised to see it happen with Black Ops.  The title "Black Ops" doesn't suggest futuristic warfare, but I do believe it's a needed breath of fresh air.  Thing is, they're running out of options on directions they can take the franchise in.  Honestly, I think it would be beneficial to release a new title once every 2 years rather than every year, but money talks.  When every release becomes the greatest selling game of all time and you're raking in that kind of cash, it's hard to back away from the formula that's been so successful. 

I'm pretty confident we're on the verge of the next generation consoles and I would love to see the next CoD title be a reboot of the franchise, so to speak, and released on the new consoles whenever they hit the market.  I believe the reboot idea was suggested above, and I'm in favor of it.

All in all, I enjoyed the online multi-player of Black Ops more than any other CoD title and I'm really looking forward to the new release.

I didn't like it at all.  Just my opinion.  Every other cod trailer has got me excited for launch.  This just confused and angered me.  Like someone said this looks like Halo s**t and I ***king hate halo.  This story is gonna be terrible, that  is my prediction.

I don't think it's a gamble. It's more like a needed change and an evolution. They realized that people loves Modern Warfare and 13 years in the future isn't that far off. I may be wrong but didn't the MW series took place at around 2016? I see BO2 as a much needed revitalization and I'm sure it will break MW3's records.

Believe it or not, Modern Warfare 3 was based in these times, the only problem with IW is that they thought it'd be exactly the same as today. Treyarch creatively got professional help to see what it'd be like in 2025, their information was accurate, you must not judge until there is a gameplay trailer/multiplayer trailer, we have only seen the reveal trailer!
