how is it possible that you still can't join friends?

I'm surprised I haven't seen more complaints about this, maybe it's for the same reason I haven't said anything: It's such an obvious and simple issue I assumed it would have been fixed by now.
You can't go into your friends list and join their lobby! It always says that it's private or full (which it isn't). It's not just me because it's like this for everyone I've played with. unless there is some hidden setting making all of my lobbies private (which should also be fixed) then this is ridiculous to have to deal with something like this in a $1 Billion game!
+1
I have no problems joining games. If its private, its because the host that created the private match forgot to change to join in progress:yes. If its public, it may appear the room is not full, because people joining dont show up right away. So you friends may think they see room on their team, but theres actually some one trying to join, so it says full.
Cowboy,
The issue is not that you can't join a game with friends that has started.
It is that if 1 to 5 of your friends are in a lobby forming up a party, you are unable to join them in a public lobby. The only way to join now is to receive an invite from one of them.
If there is some setting that you know about how about sharing?
I guess I misunderstood. But I have not run into this at all ....yet.
how are all of your NAT settings? Moderate-high?
That is because you can not just randomly join people parties. You have to be invited.
Bingo!
You head the nail on the head. You may pass go and collect your $200. You finished first in the race and have won the gold trophy. Mission completed successfully.
You can 'join a game' if for example your friend is in one and there is a space. You cannot however just join a friend in a party.
Probably got something to do with this game being a half finished crap fest from day one. ![]()
I join my friends party all the time.
When they are in a lobby with no game started on XBL?
Yeah. Perhaps I'm mistaken though. I have only been playing private matches for a while now. Perhaps it's different if the lobby is set for private match? Yeah. That's probably it. :]

To those responding and not geeting what the OP is talking about... it's the main MP menu where you form a party and search for games.
OP... this happens when the host sets their room to invite only.
It's going to be the fault of your NAT settings. Until I got my set to open, I couldn't join certain parties or games with friends.
If you have OPEN NAT, you should be fine. But if it's your friend who doesn't have OPEN NAT, you have to tell him to set it to open.
Sometimes there is just a tick box in your router's settings, or there is a MTU size which would need to be around 1490.
For help, look here. Those tutorials helped me get my NAT open.
The video I looked at was this one, it worked flawlessly!
my NAT setting is open. I have about 5 or 6 friends that i play with regularaly and none of us have ever been able to join anyone elses game without getting an invite from them. It doesn't matter if it's just 2 of us or if it's all of us, it has never worked.
I know I've never been able to find a setting for invite only/public/private or whatever for my lobby and neither has any of my friends.
The only other things I can think of that MIGHT work, you and your friends should try opening those ports on your router (if they are not already opened).
You could also try to see if you have UPNP (Universal Plug and Play) enabled.
If this doesn't help.. I don't know what oculd be wrong. Try giving a call to the cable company.. or whoever manages your network.
I think you should keep trying.....it works all the time. I frequently will sign in invisible and join the opposite team of my buddies just to piss them off. I,ve had the probs getting in,but ver VERY rarely.
Getting into a game that is not full is not the problem. They are talking about joining friends while sitting at the menu before they start a search for a game. Personally i like this, it keeps those that we did not invite out and keeps away the stalkers that get mad and follow you around.
I can agree with you on this point. It should be this way, people should not be allowed to just join a random player for any reason just because they want to or are on the friends list. It should awlays require an invite to join as far as I am concerned. I used to have to play as offline to keep randoms or freinds joining a match where I was not wanting to play with them at that time.
well make it so only your friends can join or something. it's not that hard to figure out!
