My love/hate relationship with shotguns

Using shotguns in COD has always been fun for me. But mw3 has kind of made it hard for me to have as much fun using them. Its incredibly frustrating getting point blank hitmarkers with pump action shotties, and for a person who somewhat cares about k/d, leveling shotties hasn't helped my stats.
Below is a game clip of a S&D round while using the model 1887, with a little example of the inconsistency of the pump actions. btw, I have gotten the model gold, with damage, and still would get point blank hitmarkers... Is it just me, or is they're a massive difference between mw2 shotties and mw3 shotties? Mind you, mw2 had shotguns as secondaries... The last two videos I posted here were sniping/qsing clips, so I thought i'd change it up. ![]()

The reason why the Model 1887 sucks is because without damage you need to hit 4 out of 8 pellets to kill at close range, and 5 out of 8 at long range (for the model). With damage however, it becomes virtually the same as the MW2 Model 1887, needing 3 out of 8 pellets at short range, and 4 out of 8 at long range.
MW3's SPAS-12 however is much worse. It takes 4 out of 8 pellets to kill at close range without damage, and 8 out of 8 to kill at long range. MW2's SPAS-12 without stopping power, took 3 out of 8 at close range, and 5 out of 8 at long range.
With the damage proficiency, the SPAS-12 takes 3 out of 8 at close range, and and I think 5 or 6 at long range. However, MW2's SPAS-12 with Stopping Power took 2 out of 8 pellets to kill in close range, and 4 out of 8 to kill at long range.
I hope you can see how much the shotguns have been nerfed since MW2 now.
Wow, it didn't know they were nerfed to that extreme... Makes using the pump actions incredibly hard without steady aim and damage. Thanks for the info though. Infinity Ward should have just kept the extended mags glitch, then again this wouldn't have mattered for the Model 1887.
I have 4 golden shotguns and 1700 kills with the SPAS and i can honestly say that once you get damage and range it feels like the MW2 spas without stopping power granted you have steady aim because for some reason the shotguns in this game get 100 times better with steady aim as oppose to MW2. As far as you saying you care about KD and it goes down when you use shotguns. When i was getting my KSG gold and was using my spas trying to get my 2500 kill title my KD went up from like 1.5 to 1.8 which is funny because I don't give a s**t about my KD. It's a stupid stat that makes people camp and use the best guns all the time.
Hahaha good point, my kd fluctuates all the time, and I never camp. What I meant is that I somewhat care about my stats overall.
I might have to give the spas a go.
This is the even funnier part the mw3 spas with range and emags pre patch when it was shooting 12 pellets was more effective at every range than the damage proficiency spas does now. The pre patch spas with range and emags took 33% up close as opposed to 37% now. And at range it took 58% of the pellets at 700 inches but now it takes 62%.
The spas was nerfed by the "buff" the same way the aa12 was. The rest of the guns are identical to what they were before the buff when fully leveled.
"slight nerf to the striker, and a slight buff to all other shotguns"... The cake is a lie.

I just hate the bs hitmarkers that the shotguns get. Its not fair how shotguns were treated in mw3. This hitmarker is with damage and range because I have specialist bonus and started with damage on the ksg. This stuff happens all the time regardless of which pump you take. And the thing is for 90% of the bs hitmarkers where I watch the kill cams I will land 2 pellets. So if they made it so the damage proficiency made the pumps a 2 pellet kill up close there go 90% of the bs hitmarkers.
That is rediculous. We shouldn't be getting hitmakers like that, especially when having range and damage.
Spas is fine with damage, just had a 50 plus game with it, with less than 8 deaths. It's deadly accurate and looks beast
Usas-12 is especially fine with damage or range, in his zone (which is relatively good, it shoots ohks automatically)
Model is too inconstant overall do to its spread, kudos to people who have it gold
Ksg feels too slow (trigger spamming not helping) and it's max damage range is too low for a pump, not really worth using imo
aa-12 is a poor man's striker.
Striker, mwheh. I liked it pre-patch with extended mags and damage, now that was a beast shotgun.
Navigating yourself cqb with damage on and you have yourself a good shotgun taking it it's not laggy. sure you still get retarded hitmarkers here and there but that's part of playing with a shotgun (the inconstant pellet spread).
They should improve ads accuracy, so that we are not forced to use steady aim.
I must be dead broke because the AA was my second gold shotgun behind the SPAS and before the USAS. I still to this day refuse to use the no skill shotgun called the striker. If you call the AA a no skill shotgun then you clearly have never used it.
Oh I hate that gun do to mw2, but I never use it since it's pretty boring to just spam a gun. I find it much more fun to use pump / lever action shotguns for nice ohks and when using a semi / fully auto shotgun I rather it's Op like the striker was.
Try out the AA. It has the least damage, least range, least ammo loadout and biggest hip fire spread. I've walked up behind people put the gun in their back and shot and get a hit marker and of course it's some little kid with a sniper on 10 sensitivty turns and panic knifes but i guess it's my fault for thinking a shotgun other then the striker is good. ![]()
All of the pumps still have close range reliability issues. That is the only thing holding them back. The range damage and fire rate is manageable for the most part but when you clearly should kill the guy and you get a hitmarker there is a problem.
The thing is with all the videos I have seen of close range hitmarkers 90% of them seem to land 2 pellets in their shot as shown by the kill cam. Considering we know that having a pump take 25% of the pellets to kill up close doesn't break the games balance (ie no one complained about the pre patch spas with emags and damage) and apparently we land 2 pellets most of the time in those bs hitmarkers then that means that making the damage proficiency be a 2 pellet kill on the pumps is a great solution to their problems.
All the manual actions have these problems, I have clear videos of each weapon's inconsistencies.
You're right about the usas-12. After this comment, I decided to give it a go. Its really fun, and gets ohk's pretty frequently. Got a 4 man mowdown on mission with it. ran around a corner, saw some guys running up the hill, held down my right trigger, and the rest is history LOL
I have never really been an avid user of shotguns in CoD games but recently, I have been on a USAS12 streak. Add range and grip. Extreme conditioning pro, assassin pro and steady aim pro. It's actually a beast of a shotgun. Leveling it can be a pain but play drop zone to speed that up.
That does kind of drive me nuts that often sniper rifles make better OHK at close range than shotguns.
Yeah, me too. I found that strafing when close and just simply moving around in CQC can really throw the quick scopers off but they can still get lucky. It's unavoidable and you can only hope that they aren't that good at it which is thankfully what happens most of the time (on PS3). I have run into a few QS that are truly good at it even though it still drives me insane!
Yeah that can be quite frustrating. I'll admit, quickscoping is pretty cheap.
Inconsistent is what it is. Drives me mad, drop a guy from 40ft no worries but point blank range feck off.
This is me playing core for a change, the USAS with damage. Just dont see how the last guy lives, given I shot two others pretty well through him.
See how I actually turn and start to run off. Sigh.
Wow, in real life, that first blast would have destroyed him. I feel like cod has really made shotguns in geral really underpowered, in terms of range and damage
From the other perspective, if you have really bad lag, shotguns are the most frustrating to go up against. Because you'll fire off a couple rounds with nothing happening and they'll shoot you once and you die. You're just sitting there thinking WTF?
If you have really bad lag, any gun that kills you seems unfair.
I've givin every shotgun apart from the model a proper blast and I have to say the usas12 is the best by a long long way. what it lacks in clip size to the striker it makes for in damge and range. With the spas, ksg and model you are always hoping for 1 hit kills because of the pump motion, you don't have to worry about that. The AA12 may have a better fire rate but has almost no range or damge to boot. And with the Usas, the silencer is an affective option
Yeah man, just picked up the usas-12 today, and I'm really lovin' it. Other than that, the only other shotguns I use are the Model 1887 and sometimes the ksg-12. Not too big of the mw3 spas-12, AA-12 or striker.
