    Are you serious?  Did I ever mention that lag compensation doesn't exist?  Did you completely skip over the part where I said I had a terrible experience with lag compensation when the game first came out?

     

    I'm not saying it doesn't exist, I'm saying that a lot of people that complain about it are confusing it with other factors that relate to online play.  Lag compensation (see anti-lag as defined in my post above) IS A GOOD THING... without it, everyone would complain.

    Anyways, I was just curious how exactly the "host disadvantage" worked and if it was applied to all players under a certain latency or only the host and if it was a set latency inflation or one that varies throughout the game.

    Thanks, this post essentially defines "lag compensation" as what I said anti-lag / character-lag are above.  But many times IW/SH refers to lag-compensation as something entirely different, relating to the host only.

     

    I think it's important to address which issue people are having issues with.  I struggled a lot with the host disadvantage when the game was first released since I have a very fast internet connection and pulled host a lot.  But I also noticed that when I played with my friends on the east coast and I pulled host, everybody in game would have a 3-bar, even myself as the host.  Clearly the game was implementing artificial latency on myself (and perhaps others) to compensate for a poor connection of one or more of the clients.

     

    Yet that is something entirely different than what is referred to in your link.  Also, while the source engine and mw3's engine are both based on the idtech engines going back to quake, I'm positive there have been dozens of tweaks related to the networking of the game engine that have been implemented into the Call of Duty series.  While that link gives a good general explanation of how lag compensation is supposed to work, it doesn't mean that MW3 uses the same formula as shown there.

    Nutshell fast answer all lag comp does is smooth out the gameplay between players of differing pings, as a difference means players recieve and send updates at differing times without it the game would appear with players skipping about, standing still, rubber banding ect. that its.

     

    first off seperate host the player to host the server.

    Every player in the game (including the host P) see's a slightly different version of the game their gamestate is unique to them everyones game is slightly rewound and staggered in starting, when an action is performed in game the players update the host S, which then works out using its own version of a game (which is the pure gamestate)) what the correct outcome was or the correct outcome based on what both players reported happened).

     

    The host P has the same system applied to them as well although slightly higher as being on the host S that player is updated faster than the player so the game has to account for this else the host has an advantage or disadvantage depending where that setting is placed.

     

    Everything else you described is basically the effects of either this system or the interpolation applied to each players gamestate (interpolation is basically the game filling in the blanks easiest explaniation)

     

    Lag comp DOES NOT add artifical latency , it DOESN'T penalise people with so called "faster connections"

    I think its IW, I can't really recall this much lag issues with Treyarc. Not saying Treyarc didn't make COD games that had some lag issues but for the most part, I wasn't bitching about lag in Black Ops

    Ghandi did say he'd watched it though on the hotfix/tu thread ..that was about it

    It's just hard to imagine a significant fix/change being made aside from TU/Hotfixes with a 'tweaks to matchmaking/host disadvantage/player sync issues'

     

    Seems like the most one can hope for at this point is one of those fixes will impact their individual game positively.

    in fairness they can only makew ickle tweaks each time, as anything more could significantly screw up the game for alot more peoples. Hopefully they will finally change the way matchmaking works like ive been telling them to since day 1 , ghandi did say the net team was now looking at this now as one of a few options but as usual they have made what could have been a simple change into a major wah what about the new players project.
