Map size. (Actual discussion not complaining)

Was just playing a game of SnD and called in a care package the second the round started and had someone kill me before before the care package hit the ground. So my question to everyone is: As community do we like the smaller maps or do we won't some maps around the size of Wasteland and Afgan in MW2? So in future DLC what would you rather have: larger more open maps or more smaller CQC maps?
I hate the maps in mw3. everyone of is suited of cqc except liberation and even then it is a great map. they need to bring in maps like bog or downpour.
The problem is not with the size but whats being forced into them. The building for example - the map size was decreased but we still have a **** ton of buildings, they need to be removed and the actual maps themselves need to be designed better.
I think you might be spot on. Some maps are actually pretty good sides but because of all the stuff in them they seem really small.
Mix - maps are fine. I know how to play then after 4.5 months growin to like most even Carbon!

Same....
I've found great sight lines that most don't use (at least it seems). I think for the most part a lot of the maps that are already out are great, but people need to break away from their norm and that may be general play style or following the pack and find their own advantage point(s).

Man after my own heart. Well put!
I also like a nice mix; not every map should be small and tight like Mission, etc.. However, I don't like very large maps s(uch as Array on Black Ops), where you just run around for a long time trying to find people. But small - medium/large maps are good for me.
Ah-ha,
Love big maps like Array. The challenge is to guess/understand where the ant runs are. This is quite a bit of fun for me. Once this is done, and it can be as folks are predictable, kills accumulate.
I'z luvz bigz mapz!
Lol @ ant runs.
You are correct, but sometimes I am just impatient lol, that is the problem because it clouds my judgement and ability to strategise.
I dont care about the maps being small, one of my favorite maps of all time is nuketown.
You spawned at one end, the enemy at the other, clean and simple.
I think you mean the enemy aims and you spawn in there sights.
lol.
I like the MW3 maps. The spawns make them a lot worse then they seem though. Dome, which I'm assuming is IW's attempt at a Nuketown like map, is a travesty. Nuketown for being one of the smallest maps in the history of CoD, had great spawns for a map of its size.
The maps for the most part, play great. But with certain maps (Hardhat, Mission, Seatown..) they can turn extremely annoying when a team decides they're all going to set up camp in one spot. I wouldn't mind seeing some larger maps just to throw some balance in there but more so just so I can be confident that I won't either A) spawn into bullets or B) watch a whole team spawn looking at me.
i really miss maps like storm, crash, invasion, scrapyard. them maps on MW3 are to cluttered with buildings and the spawns are to close to each other, there are very few long sites compared to older games, if MW2 wasnt gubbed now i would go back to it straight away. there are maps on here that i like but none that tactually make me go YES ive been dying for this map all day
press start during a game and look at the map it shows alot of empty space
they can also look in their head.. alottt of empty space there as well....
Nuke town was horrible IMO and Shipment was the smallest map in COD. Nuke town was a camp fest thanks to poor line of sight and 2 buildings. Some is more like firing range and the map is not bad at all. Shipment is still one of my favorite maps of all time because it was impossible to camp and while tubes and grenades flew in hchq it meant a 20 min non stop action map that made me love the fast paced game style. The maps in this game is actual not bad and seem to have variety especially with the new maps. I still wish they brought back shipment as a bonus map.
variety is the spice of life, would love to see afghan, wasteland. it seems the bigger they make the map the more they feel the need to clutter it up.
I wanted a mixture of small, medium, and large not so much clutter would have been fine but hopefully blackbox will be the map i have been waiting for
I agree that a variety would be nice. Note, Black Ops was my first shooter, I was late to the party, so not much to compare to. That said, every map felt the same to me when I first started MW3. Too many small buildings with too little open space. All the maps have the same feel to me. Aside from too much junk in the way of shooting, I find myself getting stuck on stuff, or you'll be ADS and walk over something that takes you off your target. I'm used to the maps now, but like someone else said, there isn't one you really look forward to.
Being a former objective game player, trying to play objective modes on these maps is incredibly frustrating. It seems like on every singe map you can easily toss a nade from any point on the map and hit at least 2 of the 3 flags in Dom. In HQ it seems like many of the HQ locations have a minimum of 5 lines of sight to them, making it impossible to effectively defend for more than 3.5 sec. And as the OP stated, in SnD you can be across the map and flanking the other team in seconds on many of the maps.
That being said, if you arent playing an objective game mode, these maps can lead to fast paced, intense gunfights. Ive learned the maps by now, but dont really enjoy any one more than the others.
All maps should be based off of maps like, crossfire from cod4. Large in size. Plenty of side paths for run and gunners. Cover on opposite sides of map for snipers, and a good mid range game for the rest. Too much clutter in MW3 maps, No maps set up for sniping. MW3 is 100% for run and gunning.
Every map has one of two major problems (or both). The first one being elevation. You can't have one team spawning high and the other team spawning low. The team with the upper ground will ALWAYS have the advantage, anyone who knows anything about strategy knows this. The second problem I think someone already mentioned, there's just too much stuff in the way. The movement in this game is way too sticky for there to be sooooo much stuff thrown in. Player bump is a problem, everyone hates glitching and getting slowed down because someone's running next to you. If the pathways weren't so narrow, or if there were more than 2-3 ways to cross the map, it wouldn't occur nearly as often
In theory youre correct, but this game defies physics. I cant tell you how often Im looking down out of a window and see no one and get shot. Then on the kill cam they are below me, and not only can they see my head, they can see my waistline. Poor programming.
Good points. *adds to list of things wrong with this game
IMHO almost all the maps are too small, the bigger one is too
cluttered with crud.
BTW I loved Backlot, Array, Creek, Overgrown, Afgahn and Crash
Hated Rust and Shipment with a passion.
And I wasnt a sniper, mostly play the Objective games
like HCHQ and currently HCKC.
Just curious but has anyone downloaded one of the mod tools they use for level design? I think it's called Radiant. Any other 3D artist out there?
I like a mix of maps and as someone else said some of them have too many buildings. On Arkaden,Bootleg and Lockdown airsupport is pretty useless because of the amount of cover. A map the size of wasteland would be my favourite.
I actually dont mind that the maps dont support generating high KS by using air support. Yeah, KS stack yada yada, but they arent hard to attain. I only get pissed when Im in a reaper and the game is lagging so bad that the missles wont go where I aim them.
Also, I think the spawn protection time should be cut down a little bit. Isnt it around 10 sec right now? Thats about double the time you need to get to cover/shoot down the air support for about 90% of the spawns on any given map.
I also think the maps are too small/congested. There are a few maps with 1 or 2 decent lines but mostly I think they were designed with SMG's in mind, as they seem to be the more dominate weapons IMO.
The maps are designed with CQC in mind. That is without a doubt. IW promised there would be less camping when the game came out. While I believe there is less camping now (not trying to start an argument nor debate), the advantage is now given to those who have the lowest ping to the host without actually being the host.
This is when people get upset and think the the enemy just turns the corner and knew where they were. If you get caught like that, you are basically screwed and this leads to connection winning on Hardhat and Dome.
On maps such as Bakaara and Liberation, because there is less of a set ground route, better players, despite connection, tend to do better.
I think there should be more of a mix but there has definitely got to be bigger maps like Liberation for players like me who enjoy using there skill instead of losing to connection.
