Hey guys im on ps3 and ever since that patch 1.08 i think it was every time i pull host i lag.. and its not like i think im lagging im talking like my guy is skipping all over the place and this is really pissin me off because i constantly pull host or if im in a lobby and the host leaves it make me host prolly 85% of the time this has made the game unplayable its seriously making me not play the game. Im pretty good no phenom or nothing but i can be going 22-6 18-5 24-3 in the same lobby with the same ppl for 3-4 games straight then host leaves it makes me host then im putting up numbers like 8-17 11-17 till i back out then have to regroup my clan its BS.. My internet is verizon fios 25/25 and im on a wired connection no other devices running but maybe a computer every now and then and not doing any downloading or nothing so im not sure what i need to do or if i should just give up?? any help or even comment would be helpful.
Tell me about it...
I've been spamming 402's twitter about this PS3 specific issue since launch day. It's ruining the game for me.
As far as I can tell, it happens when you're host and people connect to the game, everytime it starts "stuttering" I check the scoreboard and sure enough someone is spectating as they've just joined. It glitches a few more until they're in the game, but then happens again everytime someone leaves and then is replaced by someone else. Other types of lag occur when you're not host, but this specific PS3 issue only happens when you're host.
It is NOTHING to do with your internet. Most people seem to think it's either a memory or network issue, I personally have a hunch it may be theater mode causing too much processing overhead and the game hasn't been optimised properly (purely becuase it didn't happen in MW2)
What's really annoying is nobody at IW will ackowledge this issue. Probably because they have no idea how to fix it, or maybe have no intention to.
Don't host .. Put a router between your ISP modem/router and your PS3 .. Don't enable DMZ and do not enable port forwarding .. Less of a chance you'll pull host .. This way, at least you'll have a chance a some decent games ..
I have tried some of those steps but it doesn't seem to make much difference to me getting host or not. My router (D-link DSL-2740R) seems to still give my PS3 open NAT (SHOULD be a good thing!)
I play on both Xbox and PS3 and on PS3 you get SOOO many more host migrations. I'm certain it's this issue because whenever I get host (especially mid game - you know when the countdown timer starts from 20) I quit cause of the stuttering and it's another host migration! and loads of other people do the same no doubt.
I'm having to play more on Xbox which is a shame cause all my buddies are on PS3.
will this affect my nat type?? cuz alot of my clan cant connect if im not open... thanks for the advice
its now fixed.. my connection is http://speedtest.net/result/1803012626.png and hosting isnt a problem for me anymore..
its Working
That's an impressive connection!
Unfortunately I cannot agree that ithe problem's fixed. I just played a game and had exactly the same issue when the host migrated to me halfway through. Doesn't happen in MW2 so its not my connection.
here is what im getting with my fios and im constantly lagged up its BS i ran the test twice and im always pulling host and always lagging... http://www.speedtest.net/result/1804857409.png ..... http://www.speedtest.net/result/1804841276.png
speed test off my laptop (would be 25 and 25 if i wasn't wireless)

i have noticed a major difference so far today but i have a feeling come prime time today it will be right back to lagging again
we shall see.......
Is 950 miles your nearest server to test on?
I was able to play about 6 matches last night and didn't have much of a problem. The last match I played I was host and it played great at the beginning. My shots were registering, I was using the L118 and was getting OHK's then a few minutes into the match the lag started to kick in and I was constantly getting hit markers. My movements were sluggish, since one of the shows I watch was about to come on I decided to quit and of course the host migration screen came up.
Played about four matches this morning and the lag was pretty bad. First 2 matches I was the host. The last two I wasn't host but I must have had a bad connection to the host. Supposedly 50ms lobbies.
I probably have one of the worst w/l ratio's due to the matches I leave not due to rage, but host lag.
one of the first patches they adjusted host advantage not sure what they did but all i know is all over the message boards and online people complaining about getting host and getting screwed over.i've had it happen also, i've left on purpose and rejoined then i get a decent game.it's just sad they have not posted a reply to us.
I also have FIOS and run 25 up and down. I have the same issues, 2 or 3 games in row that run great and then its a stuttering mess.
guess ill just throw this crap back in the case and watch netflix then... This will be the last IW title i buy so lets see how treyarch handles BLOPS2 atleast when there is a problem david vonderhaar actually aknowledges it!!

It's pretty simple, here I will explain...
Hosting is directly related to your UPLOAD speed. If you don't want to end up being host, LOWER your UPLOAD speed. Your upload speed is not that important as most of the data that would cause lag on YOUR side is related to your DOWNLOAD speed. The only way to do this, that I know of, is with your ROUTER. And I am not sure that every router has that capability, my DLink does. So when you want to play MW3, just go into your router settings page and restrict the upload stream to 1-2Mbps and you're all set. Hope that helps.
