it took me till half way tenth prestige.if you cant aim in time use the quickdraw perk it makes you aim faster and if you use an assault rifle or machine gun or any automatic gun you just need to move the gun shootnig at the target still. If you cant get the assault package just use support or low killstreak that are easy to get on support,I personally use the default strike package from modern warfare 2(UAV,care package, predator missile)

Re: How long did it take you to get good?

way too damn long. the problem with me was i came a full 2 weeks late to the game and it took me forever to learn the maps. by that time campers, snipers and run-n-gunners knew all the best spots and choke points while i stumbled my way through the maps. that and when i started it seemed like every flipping game there would be at least 4 uavs and 2 advanced uavs in the air... and i didn't have assassin yet. it was a bloodbath.

it took me so long that my k/d is permanently destined to be 1.2ish forever, even though i'll average 1.5-3 per game now. :/

Haha, I just came on a month ago. And this is the first CoD game I've played, not to mention the first FPS I've put significant time into since Goldeneye for N64. That said I'm actually somewhat proud of my .70 K/D. My first several hours pulled my average down a lot, as like you, I'm usually above or just below 1.00 average on most games these days.

always pay as much attention to the game as you can as there are so many people who take it serious, find the best load out that works for you, dont get frustrated with the game because thats when you start to run around blind and not paying attention because you are so pissed and you get tore up even more, find spots on the map with good long sights as you're sensitivity is to low to run and gun, and finally turtle beach headset is always a bonus as you can here them coming from a mile of

Re: How long did it take you to get good?

Wow. This post sounds like me. Far too many variables to really list which helped me improve. But my parameters for measuring my improvement were more predicated on getting good enough to love playing. I wasn't concerned with (and still am not, to some degree) K/D, being that I play Dom about 95% of the time.

    - This forum has been of immeasurable benefit to my playing. Don't be afraid to ask for tips. There are so many excellent players and nice people who enjoy dolling out advice.

    - Anticipation is your best friend. It's one thing to be fast with your reactions, but it's even better when you have an idea where the opposing team is or will be.

    - Killstreaks are great for those who already are at a level where they can pile them up. For the meantime, I suggest Support and using a Stinger to shoot down air assault opportunities for the other team.

    - Camping will not make you a better player. What I mean by that, is staying in one place will do nothing for your skill-set or goal of learning the maps better. When I first started playing (this being my first COD), I was getting killed so often that after a while I was like "screw this, I'm going to stay right here behind this wall and let them come to me." Wrong move. This lasted about a day when after I realized I was still getting killed and wasn't enjoying it.

    - As soon as I hear "UAV is up" (if I don't put it up myself) I immediately check the mini-map. Since the red dots are just a snapshot, this helps give an idea of where and where not to be. Advanced UAV can be like a gift on Christmas at the right time.

As for weapons, I think the more experienced players here have helped you out with that. Just be sure to ADS around corners.

Don't be afraid to laugh at yourself. It helps to remember it is just a game and that you will definitely improve the more you play and the more you try to enjoy it!

Re: How long did it take you to get good?

Played every CoD since the first one came out way back when. If we're basing skill of stats, mine go up and down with every different maker (IW vs 3arc). In general, i'd say after CoD4 i got ALOT better at the game b/c i believe that may have been teh first one where my K/D was over a 1.0 by a decent amount (1.25 lol).

As far as getting good at this game, it took me about a month to really get it down. Big difference from black ops (K/D 2.25 v 1.65 Mw3). The more i play this one though the less i care about stats and what not. I find often times there's too much going on with the lag comp for it to do any justice to anyone in the lobbies. I would also add, though, that i do hand out my fair share of ass-kickings.
