I upgraded from 25/25 FioS to 35/35 FioS. I didn't start having problems until the last couple "updates". But I have to have a fast connection because I have a lot of people running off my Internet.
...oh and yes I did prioritize the XBoxes.

they need to just switch to whatever they did with MW2.

That doesn't make any sense why should anyone be punished for throttling down their connection speed? If you downgrade your acount to a slower speed that's ok? Seems to me both are acceptable solutions.

So after reading tons of accounts of people with great internet lagging, and seeing that Ghandi fellow admit there is a compensator mechanism in place, I dropped my net speed. The only reason I had 30/5 D/U was for COD, dropped it to (I think) 18/2 and now I never get buggy matches. I only pull host occaisionally instead of 2/5 games and don't even suffer as much when I do. Idk I'm kind of glad now I can pay less for internet, but I can definitely see the frustration for those of you who have higher speeds for other reasons.
If you're on the fence about chopping your connection, definitely do it. Before this I had good and bad matches randomly same lobby, different lobby whatever no matter what I used for a loadout or how I played. Now in pretty much every match I finish 2.0 or higher and sniping feel like god mode, I guess there's a plus to being stuck playing a half second behind everyone now that I'm on a level playing field! Not bragging, but seriously the difference is mind blowing.
so basically you went for a lower bandwidth package, you know doing that didnt affect your actual internet speed at all nor your ping right?, and in doing so lowered your upload bandwidth thus making you less likely to be host as others had a higher upload bandwidth and players pinged better to someone else than to you.
seeing as nothing you did affects lag comp only hosting your issue was most likley one to do with the known issue of hosting.
another possible reason is your isp like many routes traffic and applies certian throttles on higher bandwidth packages at certain times to keep their systems flowing and lesser packages arent . Basically grats you now feel the game is playing better for you not being host, please dont advise anyone to change their isp package just because something worked for you.
The sooner people understand bandwidth is NOT speed and does NOT affect ping at all ...oh for that day.........

Ghorman, would love to see that pingtest result, that would be one of the best I had ever seen at that distance. Who is your ISP? Thanks Pete

I am with u mac. Don't ever think that your efforts to spread accurate info has gone uncomprehended because you have certainly helped this gamer get a better understanding on these things. While we are here, what do u think the lowest possible upload bandwidth that would still allow a person to get host is?

I think not being host is the effect he was going for, as he and I know being host puts you at a disadvantage in this game.
What affects ping? Is there anything people can do to lower their ping?
Are you saying that people who host are not at a disadvantage in this game and hosting has nothing to do with lag compensation?
Why do people throttle their connection by downloading torrents that are eating up their bandwidth if they are not affecting their ping by doing so? They are improving their gameplay by throttling their connection. Doesn't that have something to do with lag compensation?

I spent 2 hours on the phone with XBOX Live the other day to try to figure out a way to fix the lag issues I have been fighting, I am not very good at COD, I admit that, but lately things have been HORRIBLE, they had me change some DMZ settings, did not really help, but I found out the apartment complex has a very cheat internet service they offer that I did not know about, I went from 100Mb/down to 8 Mb/down and now I am havign a great time with the game, I keep my 100M service for everything else EXCEPT MW3. I just switch over and no one can gfigure out how it is better with 1/10th of the bandwith I had before

For the most part, the game isn't broken because of people with slower connections, the game is broken because of whatever the hell they changed between MW2 and Black Ops. MW1 and MW2 played almost flawlessly the vast majority of the time and that was back when peoples connections were, on average, considerably slower than they are now. There is ZERO reason this game should lag any more than MW2 did and in fact it should be considerably better.
Maybe it's some sort of conspiracy to force people to pay for dedicated servers to milk even more money out of the fans. I'm honestly having a hard time thinking that anybody could screw up the lag in the last 2 COD games that horribly bad by accident. Maybe they thought if they made it horrible enough people would want to pay to have the game actually work.
