How is camping fun?

I just don't get how staying in a corner or head glitching somewhere for the whole map is fun. I am the kind of person that just runs around and just has fun with the game and I just never understood it.

When the same group of guys run the same route everytime and you just sit there and rack up 15+ kills in less than a min.
Camping is encouraged by mindless ADD children who can't adapt. I've killed the same person 5 times in a row with out even moving because (I assume) he thought I would move.
Nope, I killwhored until I ran out of ammo and moved on

The problem lies in map design. Once again, IW has released a game with too many spots that only have one or two entrances. This allows people to stick a claymore on their ass, head-glitch in one direction and crank up their headset volume to kill people with Stalker Pro.

I have absolutely no issue with defensive play. However, I do have an issue with the game being designed in a way that makes a person using a particular playstyle almost impossible to kill.

In mw2 it was hilarious, cause if you were stupid enough to die repeatedly from someone camping and scavenging claymores, you deserved it.

I dont get it either, I ask my clan mates all the time, we dont even stop to reload....so we cant even grasp. Now I understand, patroling but sitting in a 90* angle with Ass Pro going 4-23.....crazy to me. Even if your 15-3, how is that enjoyable?!?!? Oh, and their is sooo many of them its unreal. I pwn ******* though.

    Re: How is camping fun?

I do camp quite a bit. I am good at it. I only play TDM so I can't speak to other game types. This was my first FPS ever other than BLOPS which I got as a gift just a month or so before MW3 came out. I didn't understand how someone could go 15-21 and still score higher than someone else going 14-3. They would brag about it in the lobby how they were owning everyone. It makes 0 sense in a team setting to reward someone for getting killed. The first person basically gave the team a net of - 600 points but was still rewarded for the highest score. Still seems backwards to me. I refuse to be the guy who goes 4-25 like I have witnessed prestige 10-80 people doing and loose the match for my team. So I will sit in my corner and get a kill or 2. I will never prestige the way everything is currently set up. There is no reason for me to do it. And running around like I crazy person hoping to get a kill or 2 while dieing repeatedly isn't my idea of fun either.

All I play is TDM and I love hunting campers. I even spent a prestige token on a RPG-7. The perfect weapon that can reach out and touch someone in the tighest of places.

That being said though I don't hate campers. They are part of the game just like the guy who runs around like a half fvcked ape spraying everywhere.

          Re: How is camping fun?

I'm glad you brought up the "half fvcked ape". They're just as toxic in a match than a camper. Most of the time a camper will just null himself out. But there's always one random that spends the whole match in top gear spraying aimlessly. He's the guy on your team that goes 3-30 and single handidly gives the other team a 1337 killstreak that ends up destroying half your team. Those. to me, are the worst kinds of players

    Re: How is camping fun?

Camping is only boring when you arent getting kills. But most of the the time that isnt the case.

Running can be exciting, I'm not against it, and enjoy it when I do it. But when holding one spot without moving the excitement builds with each kill.

Think about it .. every kill running offers pretty much the same odds as the last. Each one is about who locates the other first. .... total suprise for each player.

When you are camping every kill compromises the suprise effect even more. The enemy knows where you are and when you will be there. The camper on the other hand has no clue when and from what direction the attack will come.

I do more sniping than camping........ (although they are technically the same thing) but each kill intensifies that urge to bail. Fighting that urge while trying to stay focused keeps the excitement going.

Another satisfying thing ... and quite suspensful is when you are well hid and you can hear the enemy footsteps right beside you or right behind you ............ and in some cases even I'v had people walking on me. If you make a move or a sound you're dead. If you jump up and try to spin around to kill them, you are probably dead. But if you hold still, sometimes they have no clue that you are even right beside them. Ads with your scope, thermal, or even the acog and hold it for a couple seconds before firing and the killcam is tougher for them to read.

Yup ..... camping and sniping are both fun.

    Re: How is camping fun?

The thrill in camping is delivering kills.  However, camping is not only risky, but has the potential to become boring, causing you to want to relocate, or perhaps just go out of camping and kill people.

I don't consider myself a camper, as I'm more preferential to going out and being a hunter-killer.  Even when I'm equipped with a sniper-rifle I don't prefer to just stay in one spot; often times I go with my team and kill just like they do.

    Re: How is camping fun?

Some people are just not as aggressive as other people perhaps. Or maybe bad experience with lag/lag compensation makes them afraid to go out looking around. I know I've had some times where I notice the lag and it makes me nervous to try to hunt people since I'm sure someone is going to end up glitching behind me or something if I'm running around, so getting solid cover behind me makes me feel more secure about things for a while before moving around to another area.

As mentioned, people complain about campers, but run-and-gunners aren't exactly all "skilled" players either. I've constantly been saddled with people who run and gun and...die...a lot...as mentioned, all they seem to do is provide free kills for the team most of the time and barely go positive to VERY negative in matches. And what's worse is, even after getting killed 3+ times, they KEEP DOING IT THE SAME WAY.  ><

I like to think I'm more in the middle of the 2.

If I KNOW an enemy is approaching my position somehow; UAV, AUAV, Portable Radar, something, then yes, I will gladly wait, hide away, and ambush them as they come running through without a thought. When I'm on the move, I DON'T always sprint around 100% of the time. I only sprint all out if I'm sure there's no one there. Otherwise, I will walk carefully, lol. If I come to corners, I STOP and do a quick around the corner ADS and check before moving.

So many times do people just run right past me, even out in the open, but a lot around corners because they get tunnel vision running around and I just backstab them.

              Re: How is camping fun?

For a bunch, it's not about "fun", but looking good with a high K/D ratio...

Also, of course not ALL run-and-gunners are "bad" players, but they're not all "skilled" players either like a lot of people seem to think. Just like not all campers are noobs, but can be decent players themselves at other times.

So seeing people trying to complain about campers, but act like run-and-gunners don't have their own faults (because a lot of people are under the impression that that's the "only" or "right" way to play) just looks a bit hypocritical. Both of them have their ups and downs, but people rag on campers a whole lot more that I see.

    Re: How is camping fun?

I may sound dickhead but in my opinion camping is sometimes needed. For example, if you play alot Search & Destroy and the other team just rushes like headless chickens it's really easy to pick them up. And this game is created for strategic FPS gaming, not just running around spraying with FMG9's like a retard. Im not telling you have bad style of gaming, but this game wouldn't be as fun as it is now.. I love to kill campers! It's really not that big of a deal is camper kills you, because usually in fast pasted gamemodes campers won't switch positions, but they rather just sit on there at the corner. Now, i will give a little hint for all noobish campers there! Change your position after everykill there's no place on MW3 where you can camp without being killed, it is how these maps we're made..

    Re: How is camping fun?

I camp from time to time and I run and gun from time to time, really matters what the other team is doing.

If the other team is all running around with PP90s and MP7s, I'll throw on my Type 95, and continually pick them off as they run the same route over and over again. If the other team is sitting back and head glitching, my PP90 comes out and I flank the **** out of them and shoot them in the back. I've realized in this game, the most effective playstyle is to adapt to the other team.

If the other team wants to camp, let them camp. I actually perfer it when the other team camps, because I know where they are most of the time with or without a UAV up. Instead of complaining about how many guys you see camping, just learn the maps and learn the easiest ways to knock them out of their camping spots.

    Re: How is camping fun?

I agree with sacrifire in that its sometimes necessar ...... amybe a litle different reasoning though.

With everyone rushing, things become chaotic. A bit of chaos is ok, bu I've been in some matches where skill and tactics are completely thrown out the window.

I play mostly ffa and it  sometimes becomes more of a race than it is a battle. People get to the point where they care absolutely nothing about dying as long as they can kill faster than everyone else. Outcomes of those type matches are frequently based on pure luck, who spawns where, which enemy you decide to shoot first, etc.

A good camper makes people rethink the rewards of that "race to the finish line" strategy and brings a sense of order, along with the requirement for more skill than luck.
