In game reporting, does it make any difference?

Last night i was playing HC Domination in Bakkara and was patrolling up and down between flags A and C on the left of the map, so anyway i went 37-10 and we won the match by about 40 points. When i finished playing i got a message from a guy calling me a ***** camper, so as i always do i checked theater to find out that his very guy had rushed to flag B at the start of the match and decided to camp in the little room beside the B flag for 6 MINUTES before he moved. So i sent a message back telling him to look at theater and see that he camped for 6 mins and to stop moaning that he got owned, I started to receive very offensive and sick messages back questioning my sexuality and calling me a word beginning with F and ending in G. I told him to apoligise or i would report him,so i got another message back using the same F_G word about 8 times and also telling me to wise up because u have to be reported 20 times to be banned etc. This message also told me to perform a s-xu-l act on him.
Im sickened of this as my kids sometimes use the PSN as well and could have read these messages very easily so i deleted them, but stil have his PSN name. Out of anger i hit report button repeatedly for about 30 times.
Anyway my question is.................Will the reporting do any good? and can the moderaters look at individual messages? and because i hit report so much will this void my complaint?
I want this matter taken seriously and was wondering what else i can do about it apart from in game reporting, and i dont intend to stop until something is done about this person. My fear is that nothing will be done.
In all my messages back i did not use foul language/profanity back at him at any stage.
Good question and I have no idea... but if you think about it:
These messages going back and forth have nothing to do with the game. If he was yelling profanities at you in the lobby of the game that is one thing... but sending someone a message can happen no matter which game you were playing, or even if you were even playing a game.
The PSN has a player blocking feature. I use it a lot.
Maybe I do have an idea...
I have blocked this person but i wont be satisfied until he has some action taken against him. I do know that PSN isnt part of MW3 and the message was sent rather than being said by a mic but it was still very offensive. Should i repoert him to sony? will it do any good? Im making it my mission to get something done about it,i mean you wouldnt get off with saying on a street,so why online?
You can report messages on PSN.
Just go to the message and hit triangle then scroll down to grief report. You then get a choice to report for spam/abusive language/bullying etc.
Got to say though that if you replied back with something equally offensive then Sony could ban you as well, that has happened in the past.
I have also reported it to Sony as well and im confident that i did not use anything offensive or profanity in my messages. I told this person to stop moaning that he got owned.so if "owned" is offensive then im guilty. I gave him a chance to apologise but thats when the real abuse started.
You will be ok so long as you didn't swear or use racist/offensive words.
Somebody on the EU PS3 forums was banned for replying to an offensive message with an equally offensive reply.
Which is stupid, if someone sends me hate mail. I'll say everything I like to that douche as he is the one who asked for attention. Personally I never send hate mail for a playing style / gun / perk / prestige level myself, just if they cheat / boost / glitch. They are going to ban me for failing to make the game fair online? If you can't take a bit of sh-it online, you should not be playing a shooter in the first place.
When you report a player via the in-game report feature, the report definitely goes to the appropriate parties. The punishment is not automatic and will not happen instantly. These things do take time, but eventually, the abusive parties are caught and punished. Please refer to the "Offensive_Behavior" clause in the Code of Conduct posted on these forums:

Reporting the players through the game, and reporting them to the first party (Sony in this case), would be the right thing to do. Reporting these players helps tremendously.
Shouldn't of written him back. He's just trying to get under your skin. You payed your money for the game, play as you will and take everyone else with a grain of salt.
How are verbal profanities substantiated? If I were to report someone for saying something bad... how can this be confirmed?
(are all our lobby chat conversations recorded?)
That's a good question. I never thought about it but it seems to be the only way to provide evidence that someone was being verbally abusive. Unless of course they just take your word for it but I doubt that is the case. And if we are being recorded, that is against the law since we didn't agree to it...unless it was in some TOS that was skimmed over by every individual with an account.
Yes they are.
I agree florida kracker but when i get told to suck his..... then its damn well wrong
I do agree sandman , that's immature and disgusting.
Off topic dude. do u live in FLA?
Yes sir. What gave it away lol
wow... i can't believe the guy actually had the nerve to call you a fog. lolz sorry, couldn't resist. but i know what its like. i get done running some epic games then all the dbags or little kids start in with their "HACKER!!!! CHEATER!!!! MODDER!!!!!!!" and several other racial, sexual, vulgar and offensive messages or lobby chat. its really annoying. people like that really ruin the experience of CoD. damned shame too. lol
If he verbally abused you, yes the IW mods can do something about it, but since it was over a psn message, it in no way has any connection to COD, IW or Activision and as such they don't have legal ground in said area.
@Thesandman if this was over psn you can phone sony, call them up and state that this person has been sending you vile messages because they lost a game.If you phone them there will more likely be a punishment for him as kids should not be allowed on 18+ games, hope this guys accout gets suspended. good luck
Thanks for your help guys, i have reported him/her to Sony via the PSN website.
It was just the name florida lol. Just askin cos Fla is kinda a 2nd home to me when im not at home in the UK.
What report option did you use? This is why i made a post for them to intergrate a Underage option in the report list. It's little kids like this that get me angry.
A few days ago I was watching someone on twitch.tv that was playing on the 360 who kept getting host booted by the same guy, he ended up calling microsoft to complain and see what could be done, the guy from microsoft said that reporting players through your system is almost a waste of time because little to nothing ever happens to the reported player unless they've been reported many many times and that if one person reports a player say 20 times they only really see it as one report because it's only coming from one person and that if anything was to be done to the individual being reported multiple people would need to report the player. So instead of reporting someone a boat load of times send msgs to everyone who was playing with you asking them to report the player also. Hope this helps.
I've had similar emails...my standard response.
You're message was un-solicited and offensive and a blatant violation of Sony's Terms of Service (TOS). As such, I will be reporting your account. Thank you, have a nice day ![]()
Sincerely,
A mother of two who is raising her children to act in a mature fashion and to respect others. Sorry, your parent's obviously failed you.
