How can I avoid being host?

The title says it all to be honest. I've tried having a torrent downloader on my laptop, leaving it to seed stuff. However it doesn't cut it ![]()
Had enough of being the Host with people running around like they're on a satelite link or I'm playing a slideshow. So what can I do to my PS3/Router (Virgin Media Superhub) to avoid being host?
Thanks
do a search on here sum1 made a post about how to set ur router to basically delay ur connection so u dont become host and get the best side of the lag comp. or u can do what i did i just put my router in the farthest room in my house and it seems to be ok i get screwed sometimes but its fair in my eyes ill take a @ss kicking every now and then because some games i can tell the lag comp is saving my life and giving me kill streaks
Can't find it :S
First reset your router if you opened ports or have a dmz host setup. Then Disable your upnp settings in your router / ps3 settings, this should give you a moderate port, if not lower your mtu setting in your ps3 network settings to 1400.
I haven't opened ports or put it in DMZ.
Will try the rest in a moment. Cheers!
Thanks dawg but didn't work for me, still get host and lag just the same. Reduced MTU as far as 1200 disabled uPnP and still get host EVERY game I start from the lobby. It's just unplayable like this.
Just stream 4-5 youtube videos as the game start clock counts down, soon as the game starts, shut em down
That would utilise download speed. CoD bases the host on upload speed (amongst a few other things).
Really? My upload is cr@p....I pull host all the time
Yeah with BOps I was averages 0.7-1.1 Mb upload and still pulled host. Then I upgraded my internet and now average 2.8-3.3 Mb upload.
F...M....L.
I remember the Creative Deciever saying that they reduced the bandwith requirements. So basically anyone can pull host and f8ck the whole game up, which is probably the cause for this crap that is going on.
...and it is crap that is going on.
Must be true, as I have had games where everybody is playing at a 2/3 bar, including the host.
Same ^
Gone in to a game <50ms ping with 2 bar and most others on a 1 bar.
I used to play online with hardwire and was nearly always host, I switched to wireless for MW3 and I never get host now; worth a try, I haven't changed anything else. To say "anybody" can pull host is rubbish, I have frequent occasions when the lobby closes and the message appears "no suitable host found", happened twice yesterday. So there is some criteria still set.
The most sure fire way is to have a router capable of capping bandwidth.. If you do then cap your upstream to around 60kbps. Not 200, not 500, around 60kbps is fine. The transfer rates on this game are generally 20-50kbps up and downstream during normal play if your not host, so it won't compromise your gameplay and others but it does ensure you won't be host.
