WOULD YOU LIKE AN ICON TO SHOW WHO IS HOST?

Please post here if you think the host of a lobby should be marked with an icon.
To be honest, every single person should respond with yes, simply because it's no secret anyway, you can find out by quitting or sometimes by a combination of factors, so being able to to see by virtue of an icon is simply being "honest and forward" about it.
And in advance of someone saying:
"No, screw that, there will be no end to host migrations as people quit out when they realise they are host and this will happen for the entire match",
I reply:
Then what you are implying is that the game (or each match) depends upon a succession of people NOT KNOWING they are disadvantaged for a period until they realise and the lack of realisation is passed on to the next person OR the game depends upon someone suffering for the sake of the entire lobby.
This is wrong. Delaying the truth here to patchwork some shoddy matchmaking/host lag compensation development issues is not a solution. It barely works anyway.
Great idea, but will most likely not happen lol
The solution isn't calling out who is host, it's to quit putting them at a disadvantage.
Yes, the solution to "the problem" is to stop disadvantaging players, I agree. In the meantime, at least as long as a player is hosting and there are no dedicated servers then it should show the host.
If the matchmaking was working perfectly I think it would be okay. It might be an excuse for some to leave either way though. I don't hate the idea, I just don't think it would work out.
You don't need an icon..... When your gameplay stutters like a 10 year old Gareth Gates then you know you're HOST ![]()
They will never bring this icon on, because being host sucks majorly.
Knowing being the host for sure will result in instant dashboarding and ragequiting.
Yeah i would be a good idea buy. most people dont want to know who the host is and will quit just so they are not the host.

The player at the top of the lobby once the scores are at 0 is host. For team games it's the person at the top of 1 of the 2 teams so 50/50 guess there.
Maybe im being naive, but was wondering what the icon of a person with a cross in the middle of it that has been appearing beside people names in the lobby?
@Thesandman this people share the same group in cod_elite, butt sometimes I think it doesn't make sense, on my behalf I only saw people sharing the netherlands group with me, a lot of german, french and spanish players in the netherlands group??It's must be a malfunction between elite and mw3
Great idea having the icon.
Too many people would leave once they found out they were the host and we would spend all our time in lobbies waiting for games to start.
I am tired of being host. This crappy lag for hosts didn't start until black ops. I'm not against a level playing field for everybody, but putting the host at a disadvantage is not the answer. Especially when I'm picked to host 99% of the time. This morning it was 100% of the matches I played in except the two that I joined in progress. Oh no, host migration, guess who it picked to be host. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Later I'm going to try using up bandwith until the match starts and see if that prevents me from being host because the next step is to quit playing altogether. Or I'm going to get DSL just for gaming and use my cable internet for things that actually work properly.
Of course a nice big icon next to the host would be great. That way I'll know going into a match that I'm going to get screwed.
if the game didnt play like krap when you were host people wouldnt leave....i remember very few host migrations in mw2 not like in mw3
I think they deliberately made it so you can't figure out if you're host or not because they knew about the lag issues before release and knew that it's the worst for the host.
See how they stopped talking about the lag issues altogether. They won't answer any questions about it and they've removed it from the list of upcoming fixes. They're trying to sweep it under the rug.
Regards,
Someone who waited for a patch for MW2 for over 9 months.
Sounds like a good idea, but what would be the purpose?
I can only see two possible purposes for it:
1. Allow the person that's host to leave the game because they don't want to be penalized for being host, or
2. Let everyone else know who's host so they can gripe at him/her for their bad connection.
The only real fix to the host problems are to fix the game itself, not point out other players. Just my opinion.
Good reply, thats what I was thinking, it sounds good but what would happen when people realize who the host is?
Reason I say no to this idea is because this would cause people to constantly gang up on the host. People would be yelling and screaming for him to leave the lobby. Or he would just leave and mess someone's great game up then that person with the good game would more than likely send the host bad messages.
As far as ganging up on the host I would disagree. If someone whines about the host connection what does that tell you about your connection? If you are not host, then your connection is worse than the host.
I would like to know when I am host plus I would like the option to opt out as host. A check box in the options or something.
If they had an opt out of host option match making would begin to take longer as it is limited to choices.
agreed but it would force IW to either fix the issue or go to dedicated servers. Could you imagine the sales if something like this was happening?

Dedicated servers are not the end all, beat all solution. There would still be lag... there would still be lag compensation.

No but it would be better than me being matched up in a host room that is in EAU when I am midwest US. There will always be lag, I understand that, but dedicated servers help with eliminating some as well as options to have an autoboot in place. Someone connection drops to over 120ms, boom gone!

On the sureface... it seems like an innocuous request.
I know I would like to know who the host is.
... but...
... the "host" doesn't deserve the grief that would come with it. They didn't choose to be host.
This is a brilliant idea if this is added i will know when to leave a game instead of having to die a few times and then realise im a few seconds behind everyone else
Im with rankismet here. I would like to know, but it would cause problems. Ppl would blame the host, the host would blame lag comp. It would be just one more "excuse" ppl would use for a bad game.
lol, we would never get to play mw3 again LOL
people would just leave
"game about to start............@HOST" AWW **** THAT (exit)
"searching...........@HOST" aw wtf i have to now? im out (EXIT)
by this time everyone will start to leave cause they'll get "tagged" next lol thats a real recon drone for ya! =D
Lmao. That's SO true. It would be absolutely unbearable lol.
The point was to naturally evolve the game. Whether they are sweeping it under the rug or not, having a labelled host would cause something to happen - maybe information, maybe quit outs.
But if mass quit-outs occur because people have a host icon what does that tell game developers?
Basically it's like the penalty icon, you're being penalised.
So why not be honest about it (that it is a penalty and problem) and then maybe the issue cannot be swept under the carpet.

Unfortunately it's like taking a politician for their word though. They can claim all election season that they will do XXXX. Most never come through on their promises.
I already know when I’m host. I believe the count down starts at a higher number than normal, then immediately goes to 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. In any case I gave up on hosting a long time ago (play moderate now). It’s just too shocky experience, for big parts the frame rate is horrible and you get fkced over too much shooting blanks “occasionally” do to over the top lag compensation, especially with 3 bar players joining..
It find hosting on black ops fun, It should at least get at that level where you don’t get handicapped so much.
Even if not full dedi-servers, I would like to see a Systen SOCOM 2 used to have. You could find your room, join your friends, stay in you time zone if you choose to, and If you made a private match you had the choice of it being ranked or not, what boards played, banned weapons, gamestyle and so on so fourth.
This needs to happen atleast.
Host icon = Yes.
Yes a host icon would be great.
a host icon would be awesome! im sorry the game is horrible when you are host im tired of getting 1 shotted then find out people put 80% of their magazine into me....when running speedtest.net i consistantly get a 14-17ms ping and 35mb down and 10mb up as you can imagine i pull host about 75% of the time....my friends hate playing with me cause i have to back out constantly cause im host.....its unbearable to be host.
HELL YES!!! I am getting screwed. Being chosen to host matches 8 out of 10 games. It sucks. Everybody should change their clan tag to HOST. F*** BEING THE HOST!!!!
