I'm sick of getting host - any options?

Today I played a few matches. The first one I entered when it already began, was a good one, nothing special.
Next match I noticed that some players needed almost half a clip to die. So I quit and guess what - I was host. Next game: the same. Nobody died, so I quit, I was host. 4 times in a row.
Whenever I joined a match that already had begun (thus I wasnt host) things were much better. It is a known fact that the host has a disadvantage and that in MW3 this disadvantage is huge.
Have you got tips on how to NOT become host? Tampering with QoS settings wont help much because my xbox is the only thing running - and what should my router give low priority to if the xbox is the only thing causing traffic...
I heard that MTU settings might do the trick. But I am not sure. Is there a method to limit my up/down bandwith? I heard that more upload capacity means there is a good chance you gonna be host (among other things, but UL is most important). I just wanna play normal, dont wanna be unkillable, dont want to lag like crazy, just dont want to be host 4/5 games :-(. Please help!
I have the exact same issues. Im starting to get rather fed up with it now.
anyone out there with suggestions???
bumping for justice.

I hate to be that way but that was my only suggestion.. Like I've said recently I sold this game before the end of november and didn't pay for elite. Just stick around for hopes of game improvement......

wow I love getting host. Seems like i'm dropping people with 2 bullets. but when im not....oh lord. alot of wtf moments. enemies ''sponging'' bullets, lag, and a weird thing with reload animation.
I was having the same issue as you and I found a fix that works about 90% of the time. I keep a laptop set up next to my gaming chair with utorrent fired up. I try to keep about 4 or 5 torrents ready to go, large files with lots of seeders. Once i join a lobby I start the downloads. Once I pick the class im gonna play i stop the downloads. You cant keep the downloads going while your playing cauyse it will either make you much harder to kil which is unfair or it will lag you soo badly that you cant play. I have tested this model against my normal team. They have verified the difference in my game play against them according to wether or not i have the torrents running. I'm not a great player to beging with, but I have managed to get my KDR to climb from .35 to .92 in just 2 weeks using this method.
What a pain in the ass, there is a much easier way than that.........
Its not too bad of a method but I'm certinly open to other ideas. I find it works well cause at least I'm getting torrents that I want at the same time, lol
The problem with it is what you're doing will mess the matchmaking up and potentially ruin games for others.
I only play with my team which consists of 6 of us that all live in the same general area. So the guys we play against have no chance of being on my team to begin with. How will it make it unfair for others? cause im not letting CoD screw me for having a great connection? Let me know. Im not trying to be unfair just trying to not get screwed.

great attitude, well wont effect my team so who cares,
you throttle your bandwidth before the game starts you screw up matchmaking for your entire team, you throw off the host lag comp equations as you report a false ping,
please dont buy into the CBG's theory that mw3 screws people with a good connection it doesnt, the reason you get host is because OTHER players ping the lowest to you and your UPLOAD bandwidth is above the min neeeded for hosting. If you dont want to be host just simply limit your upload bandwidth or change yourself from open to mod nat , you'll still screw your party up but hey thems the breaks
If there is a way to fix it so that its fair all across the board please let me know and I will try it. So far this is the only advice i was given and it seems to work fine. Im not going 35- 0 but i usually stick to a 1.0 to 1.5 kdr per match. When i was using strict nat type it would take up to 5 minutes to find a match which im not patient enough for. If someone else has to get screwed other than me im fine with that. Just tired of the obvious deaths caused by me having one type of connection or another. and like I said. I did play against the team i normally play with and they claimed that they couldnt tell the difference in how hard it was to kill me when i was or was not running the torrents and those guys are better players than I am. So from the tests and feedback it seems the only game play being chaned is mine, and in a way that appears to be fair all around.
But I am open to other options like i said. Toss me some advice.

This is why lag comp should be removed entirely, lol.

exactly... Limit your upload bandwidth... 512 should do it.. its the only way to prevent host without screwing with everyone elses gameplay.. i have tried the moderate nat but as he said.. party chat stopped working...
even still... you are still dumping host on someone else so nothing is entirely fair... lol.. wish they would bring back that tiny advantage to host to promote good connections staying in the game... which in turn helps everyone else..
Im not sure what kind of router you have but im using a netgear wndr3700, and i was having same problem. Under my QOS setting i have a bandwidth control whitch did fix it. I was pulling 1600kbs while in a game (which is impressive concidering i only have a 1500kbs internet connection) then i set bandwidth control to 250kb/s which made gameplay much smoother and helped everyone else on my network get much better connection.
You do realize that by reducing uploads to 250kb in QOS you are bottlenecking your connection which creates problems for others playing the game. You just made yourself part of the problem instead of creating a solution.

all he has done is eliminate himself from the host selection system, and given himself (almost as the number should be a wee bit higher) enough upload to play not as a host with no problems..
i'll just leave that out here for people to digest
I agree as long as the 256k is just for his xbox and not for the entire network. If its for the whole network I think any spikes would affect the game.
Well the problem was the router was not dividing up the signal and instead it was giving 1 connection all the bandwidth then jumping to another connection and giving it all the bandwidth causing my signal to fluctuate between 1 and 3 bars and creating masses of lag. The inability to evenly disperse connection seems to be predominately a netgear problem..And if i happen to be joining a game while i was briefly getting the full 1.5mb/s. I would get host and cause everyone to be lagging. Since "bottelnecking" my connection i am at a consistant 3 bars (ocasionaly even 4).
Did not realize netgear automatically separated chunks of upload bandwidth. If that is the case then you should be fine as long a the 256k is only for the connection to your xbox and not the whole network.
Mine lags really bad, being host or not. But when hosting its usually far worse. Cant find good game at all anymore.
i played with the torrents saturating a % of my upstream to avoid being chosen as host and absolutely crushed on people. it was sad and after the last patch i decided to ditch that method and give them a chance
if i stay in a lobby solo for more than 1 game [assuming i joined in progress and not during intermission] i get host and generally can't kill anyone. struggle to go 1:1
my solution now is to throw my W/L to the wind and back out of any game where I know i'm host. sucks but it's less fun than getting killed by people who weren't even in my FOV yet.
overall it's much better but it is still enough of a disadvantage to be host that it requires you to play at god level to do very well. it has improved my game and reactions but i'm not superman. the plus is that when i am not host i play MUCH better than i used to. so i guess there's that lol
Just don't forward port 3074.
Closed port = no host.
Thank you all for your constructive input - really appreciated! Also thanks for not turning this thread into a flamewar and staying on topic.
I will try again to limit my upload via QoS to somewhat between 200-400 (still not sure if that really limits upload or only if other network connections with higher priority are running). And if this doesnt help I'm gonna close port 3074.
As for host disadvantage in general: The problem (at least MY problem) is, that MW3 is nearly unplayable for me as host. No other shooter I've played over the past couple of years was that bad. And I surely dont have any second thoughts on lowering my bandwith to get rid of being host. I wouldnt complain if it happens once in a while. But my connections seems to be so good that it makes me host approx. 4 out of 5 games - without any exaggerations.
I admit that this doesnt solve the problem and if everybody would do this the game would become unplayable for all. BUT: the only real solution is that they FIX THAT ISSUE that has been known since the very beginning. I paid like everybody else and I dont see why I have to suffer more than others just for having a better connection. Because the other solution for me (which I use now) is to stop playing MW3 and switching back to BF3 where issues in that large scale simply dont exist, sorry to say but that is how it is. And that doesnt help the game also because I'm sure I'm not the only one who is fed up.
Once again: Thank you.
PS: would have given more "helpful answers" but only 2 were allowed, sorry
I see so many people who say this yet anytime ive tried doing the same I get negative results. I only seem to be further behind people and have more hitmarkers.
just to let u know i amin the same boat as u i always get host i can't play with my mates as i straight away get host and can't kill anyone so i just join a game finish then back out then find another game then backout as well mw3 is crap it is that simple so i am back 2 black ops as for mw3 map packs no damn way i am paying for them when i can't even play with my mates like i used to in black ops IW are rubbish. Treyarch hurry with ur new call of duty please !
How do you tell if you are the host in a game? I've tried searching the interwebs but with no joy???
Trust me: you will clearly notice a difference... you need half a clip to kill anyone. I wouldnt have believed it but thats how it is. You just notice there is something fishy... Then you back out and suddenly you see that the host is migrating when you leave, thus you were host.
Also, when a match begins I instantly press select. The one who gets 4 green bars FIRST is usually host (but this I am not sure in MW3 - sometimes there are instantly more than one with 4 bars at start).
You could always snap your game in half. I am sure that will work.
