Xbox account got hacked.

Well I go to get online tonight and get a message saying "I've been signed out because my account is signed in on another console". Immediately I check my bank account and see that my account is $130 negative. @#$% me right?

After a call to MS, the guy tells me that it's pretty obvious that my account was hacked because my security question was now in Japanese. At least once the investigation is complete I will get my money back.

This really sucks too because I was in the top 350 in HC Search.

Moral of the story. Never link your credit card or paypal to xbox. ALWAYS use MS Points from the store. I'm mad at my self for allowing this to happen.

Congrats you nerdy Japanese kid with 10,000 ms points.

Go to your bank explain the situation and they should void the transaction. If it happened recently.

I dont understand is how they bought MS points. Wouldn't the points go to me? how does the hacker benefit from this?

  When the hacker buys something on his xbox with your account the product is on the xbox, meaning any account on the xbox has the ablility to use the product.

That sucks. I never link my credit card to iTunes, PSN, XBOX LIVE, Pay PAl, or any site that wants it. When I want something I go buy a gift card.

  Yeah that's what I will be doing from now on. The good news is that my account will be fine after the investigation is complete so all my MW3 stats should be fine.

Hey OP, did you recently start using that "Cloud" service that was part of the new Xbox dashboard update?

EDIT" By "using that" I mean have you saved your profile info on the cloud so you can easily recover your GT somewhere else?

  No I did not. I did however just update my paypal through the xbox and I think thats how he got into my accounts.
  
  Also, my xbox account was linked to an old email so that could be the issue as well.

    That's why I use a secondary checking account for all my paypal, ps, xbox purchases. I even started using cards after the whole PS Network hack. It's a shame it's come to this, but desperate times....

      To be honest I'm pretty paranoid now to use paypal at all. The problem is that I have a side business doing design and I get paid through paypal. Might have to go the route you did though with a secondary checking. That way no matter what happens it wont affect the payment of other bills.

        Any time I make an online purchase, I gen up a "one-time use" credit card number. Most banks offer this service and call it something different. They offer the ability to generate a credit card number that has a set balance on it (you set it to the amount you're about to spend) and it only works that one time.

If it makes you feel better the exact same thing happened to me(well, besides the japanese answer part).

I called up my bank and had my card canceled before the transaction was complete, then called up Microsoft and went through a whole thing with Xbox and they said that they could work it out but it'd take a couple weeks for my money to get refunded. 10,000 MSP.

They gave me a code for 1 free month of XBL, which was nice. :]

The shi*ty part is they bought just absolute crap games with it. x]. 4 sonic games...WHO NEEDS 4 SONIC GAMES! Resident Evil 5(not terrible, admittedly.) Mortal Kombat, and Dragon Age; Origins.

Okay..I guess it was just the sonic games that got me riled up.

  How long did it take for them to send you the 1-Month? I called last night and still no email with the free 1-Month.
  
  Also, I called my bank and cancelled the card last night after calling MS. Today I look at my account and instead of negative 130$ I'm now negative 240$. I immediately call my bank and they tell me that blocking the card did nothing. The hacker accessed my actual account via paypal. It really doesn't matter because all the money will get refunded but what a hassle.

      Oh wow, I was under the impression that they gave it to you right away that way you can still play the game with a new account. Last night I set up a new account anyways with my 2-day MW3 pass.
