Elite Clan Operations Unofficial FAQ (Our questions aleady answered by Beachhead)

***Before and while reading this, please take into consideration Beachheads replies, and that Elite is a work in progress and the replies given may change and to not "Laywer" Beachhead as they are giving us the best info they have at the time. I honestly believe they are here to develope and comunicate a relationship with us the consumer gamers. -Fatal Vision***

First of all thanks to Beachead for taking an active roll in communication with the community!

Second of all, I think we have to realize that task at hand that Beachead faces in delivering Clan Support to we the Elite Community.

I have seen alot of questions, and have raised quite alot of questions and concerns myself with asking about Elite Clan Support.

I try and stay informed on the Clan Support process so I can relay any info I find to my clan mates from the clan I have started.

So I have been gathering alot of replies from Beachhead that concerns Clan Operations. So here I will post (and I hope Beachhead doesnt mind)

a list of comments written by Beachhead concerning our inquiries about Clan Operations.

So I have compiled several posts written by Beachhead answering our concerns when asking about Clan Operations.

These arent all the post but a great few.

So if your asking about Clan Operations, I hope this helps, and hope this helps Beachhed as well.

Thanks again Beachhead for your continued communication with the Elite Community.

**********************************************************************

FROM BEACHHEAD......

Our first January build is going to have a massive amount of bug fixes and functionality tweaks. It should address a lot of small problems the Community has been having. This is a build we have been itching to push live, but as best practice, you don't push a big build like this Live during a holiday break because we want the full team around to support it.

To be totally clear: this first January build will not have Clan Operations.

Clan Operations are something we intend to roll out soon. It's our highest feature priority next to other Clan and Operation enhancements that are underway. A lot of this prioritization has been based on community feedback.

I don't know if you had a chance to see the massive Clan Operations thread (it got a little bit heated, but there's good information in there). One of the things I revealed is that there are a number of interconnected systems that go into Clan Operations. For example, there is a front-end web component that the community will use to see the feature, there is backend statistical tracking, there are automatic processes that sort and award winners, there are administrative tools, etc. I'm painting a picture here of a pretty complicated system.

Presently we are wrapping up work to link all of these components together into their final feature. The individual components are tested as they are worked on, and then tested as they are joined together, and then "real world" tested as a user would interact with them. Our testers are part of a special group that regular users can't see, this lets them test the Operations in the "real world" without disrupting your experience with (potentially) buggy features.

When Clan Operations enter this final "real world" testing stage, we will be sure to let you guys know. At that point, we'll be able to project a release timeframe with a good degree of confidence. It's still possible we'll hit a showstopper issue at that point, but we're going to try to be open with you about that as well.

  **********************************************************************

As we began to finalize ELITE, it was clear that some features had to wait. We had to make a decision: do we launch Clans so that Clans can get organized? Or do we hold back on Clans until Clan Operations is completed?

We made a decision to launch Clans. We were then sidelined by security and performance issues associated with launch. In hindsight, we would have held back on the Clans feature until it was ready. There are other features we did hold back on, and we'll launch those as soon as we can, too.

One new thought I'm hearing here is that you guys aren't happy with the level 50 reward for Clans. I'll speak with the designer on the feature and see if there's anything else we can do.

**********************************************************************

Why we can't just turn on Clan Challenges:

Clan Challenges can get pretty complicated. For example, let's say there's a challenge where a Clan has to have every Clan member in a single match score at least a 3.0 K/D ratio (minimum 3 Clan members). We then need to go through every match the Clan ever plays until the challenge is completed. Testing this is atrocious. We're working on the feature, but it will come AFTER Clan Operations.

We want more than 2XP for maxing our our Clan:

We'll get back to you about it -- can't give you a quick answer, but are hearing you loud and clear.

**********************************************************************

Clan Operations are still in development. I'll post an update when it enters the final stages of testing, when we have everyone banging on it. At that point, I'll be able to give you a really specific estimate as to when we expect it to go live.

We're glad to hear so many requests for it. It's an important part of the overall ELITE clan experience, and we're excited to launch it.

**********************************************************************

Beachhead on Clan Leaderboards….

It will be coming, although it's more complicated then you think it would be to make a leaderboard which ranks large groups of people against large groups of people.
One of the senior executives here is a big competition guy and has been pushing all of us to implement ways for people to compare their performance against each other. We'll have more to tell you about this in later January. In the meantime, if you guys have any cool ideas for ranking/laddering/leaderboards we're always willing to hear you out.

**********************************************************************

Clan Challenges will follow after Clan Operations.

Our priority order for Clans is as follows:

  1. 1. Clan Operations
  2. 2. Clan enhancements (miscellaneous features to help everyone organize better especially Clan leaders)
  3. 3. Clan Challenges

As soon as I can give you a date on Clan Operations, I will move on to talking about Clan Enhancements. Clan Challenges will follow on the heels of that.

Since Clan Challenges are the only ways free guys can contribute to a Clan, it is a definite focus for us. We want to give Clans a reason to bring in free guys.

No ETA right now as we're focused intensely on Clan Operations.  We'll keep you posted on the development of Clan Challenges after Clan Operations and Clan enhancements (misc. features that help Free and Premium members organize better) have launched.

**********************************************************************

Clan Operations:

I have spent some time with the engineer who is working on this. The design is done, it looks good. The development is reaching the final stages before it enters test. Once it enters test, we have a ton of guys who will bang on it until we feel like it is solid. Our goal is to get Clan Operations rolling in January.

More Clan features: we have a number of features also slated for January. I'll debrief more information on this in a future post in the ELITE sub-forum, which will go live today.

Yes, Clan Challenges and Clan Operations will both level up a Clan.

Example XP values:
Winning a Clan Operation is worth upwards of 2500 XP.

Completing a Clan Challenge might be worth 500 XP.

It's a big bummer not being able to level up Clans. We did not anticipate that you guys would have to wait this long. Per some of the other Clan discussion threads, I'm going to see if we can do anything special for you guys once Clan Operations arrive - like some big prized Operations. I'll come back to you on this.

**********************************************************************

The build during the first week of January is going to be a bug fix build. It will fix a ton of issues, some of which you may have noticed and some of which will improve performance or security. This build is in testing right now which is why we're willing to say it will happen during the week of Jan 2. We'll post up everything that has been fixed when the build goes Live.

Clan Operations is not part of that build -- it's a big feature. We expect it to enter testing in January and we'll give you a date for release as soon as it is near completion. Additionally if it hits a major snag (say we discover a cheat or exploit), we'll let you know that as well.

Our new goal over here is to give you guys a lot of transparency into our processes, but not make any specific date commitments until the work is nearly complete with testing.

**********************************************************************

For Clans specifically:

  1. Clan Operations will come first.
  2. Following hot on its heels will be something we're calling "Clan Enhancements" -- this is a ton of work around Clans to make the feature better and more functional.
  3. Then Clan Challenges.

At Beachhead, we work in strike teams. We'll be pushing a bunch of other fixes and improvements in early January -- these will be unrelated to Clans.

well, that is some positive news....  and i hope you will take the below statements as constructive, not hate...

    So, Riddle me this...

We buy a product that is ELITE,  The product doesnt deliver on what we purchased, yet we are continually told "coming soon" and we are expected to be pleased at this?

let me state this first...Im a hardcore Call of duty fan, and a firm supporter of call of duty elite.. However, im very disappointed in the service thus far..

its nearly 2 months into my 12 month subscription, and clan operations still are not live..

not only that, but there are absolutely NO Hardcore Mode competitions, something we were promised as gamers back in the beta stages of elite.. i talked to atvi support via twitter and was told that HARDCORE MODES were not in the plans anytime soon for elite.. that is very disappointing since the only game modes i play and enjoy are HARDCORE MODES!

Why the competitions cant be made in both hardcore and core at the same time is beyond me, but i would love to have an answer for this..  and "more people play core" is not an answer..  if we purchased elite, we should get the same benefits as the core players via hardcore players and hardcore mode competitions! period...

so far, what i have got for my money, is Friday Night Fights..  which i can watch on youtube anyways for free..  some dbl xp and a title..

I am a patient person, but 2 months into a 12 month cycle is not acceptable by any standard..

they did give us 1 month free elite service for the issues at start up, but what about month number 2?   its only 4 bucks a month for the service, but thats not my point here...

I hope you guys take this as a constructive criticism post, and not as an I HATE ELITE post..

I really enjoy elite, i really look forward to when all things are working on elite, and i no longer see the messages "coming soon" anywhere on the site or on the console app..  im going back to my practicing patience skills, in hopes that some more answers can be found by this post..

    Thank You,

    Signed:

A concerned, dedicated gamer, looking for answers..

Hey Xegxtremechaos1cl (nice user name). Thanks for the post. We really appreciate that you took the time to spell out your position directly and with respect for your audience.

I'm going to try and give you some direct answers, but I wanted to say thanks for the attitude at the outset.

its nearly 2 months into my 12 month subscription, and clan operations still are not live..

Obviously I can't give you any information you haven't recieved already on this yet. But I want to keep your comment here because it is a valid criticism and something we are working hard to make right. We're sorry and we hope to have more news soon.

not only that, but there are absolutely NO Hardcore Mode competitions, something we were promised as gamers back in the beta stages of elite.. i talked to atvi support via twitter and was told that HARDCORE MODES were not in the plans anytime soon for elite..

I'm sorry that you recieved this information via twitter -- it's not accurate and I'll need to check in with guys running that twitter account.

The accurate state of things regarding Operations is as follows:

    1. There were substantive differences between the Black Ops Beta and MW3 -- sorry we haven't reached Operation parity yet.

    2. We still have plenty of testing to do with Operations -- bigger prizes are coming as we get a better handle on cheating and collusion, along with performance.

    3. Operations are a unique thing to Call of Duty because they encourage player behavior (in a specific game mode). This means that there are a lot of approvers before we run an Operation.

    4. Right now our network engineers (one of the approvers) are neverous about Operations against less popular game modes, like Hardcore. If everyone decided to quit playing something popular, like TDM, tomorrow and ran over to HC CTF, it would be destabilizing to our back end. We would need to reconfigure our machines to support a larger HC playerbase.

    5. All of this is just background for you, so you can understand the context of why we are not running Hardcore operations right now, that said...

We will run a Hardcore Operation or two soon (as a pilot) as we work towards running them more often. I've asked for the Live Ops team (the guys who manage competition) to add Hardcore to the calendar within the next couple of weeks.

I'll also mention that it's been good to see so many folks who like hardcore on the boards (and have complained about other hardcore bugs, like the level calculator). We'll definitely factor you guys into prioritization for features and bug fixes.

Anyway -- let us know if this helps give you more insight into the situation. Hardcore is coming, we hear you.

"If everyone decided to quit playing something popular, like TDM, tomorrow and ran over to HC CTF"

Where can i find this game mode at?

dont take this the wrong way.  Im not trying to be disrestful but do you even play mw3?  Its hard to fix a game if you dont know whats in a game.

As for this thread.  This thread doesnt anwser anything.  All it is, is a long winded "we dont know" and "coming soon"  pfft.

Sry beachhead but your reason for no HC is weak at beast.  There really is no excuse.  If its a server load of something then get more servers. You made a killing at the game and failed to deliver a "FINISHED" product. If its a matter of the higher ups not wanting to spend the money then just be honest and say. "higher ups dont want to spend the cash on HC".  That way HC players dont need to be scammed out of their money and wont spend the money on your game.

"It's a big bummer not being able to level up Clans. We did not anticipate that you guys would have to wait this long. I'll come back to you on this."

So you solution it to offer a hand full ofclans a big prize but forget everybody else that has suffered from yout inabliity to provide what was payed for?  O am i misreading/misunderstanding something here?

Beachhead i know your just a PR guy ment to cool down the threads here.  But your post are really nothing more then a emtpy sorrys and long winded " we dont know" and "coming soon".  I understand you are just doing your job so its nothing personal really.  But somebody higher up really needs to start being honest with thier customers here.  Things were way over promised and severly underdelivered. Best anwser we get is "coming soon".  To say "we messed up" is an understatement.  I know its not really like companys to spill the beans but to blow smoke.  But if you really want ppl to buy another call of duty that was producted by you and continue to make over a billion in rev off of one game, Its time to step up and be honest.  Just my 2 cents.  take them for what they are worth.  I really enjoy playing cod but severly let down by whats happened between mw3 and elite.

Come on man, give us a break here. This particular user has 100's of hours in COD. We have to live it, eat it, breathe it.

In this specific case, I was trying to give an example of a game mode that would be really unpopular (CTF is the least popular core gameplay type). I've asked you guys not to word-lawyer me before. We're going to have a healthier dialogue here if everyone cuts everyone a little slack.

Sry beachhead but your reason for no HC is weak at beast.

Sorry you feel this way? It is the truth. HC game modes are less popular. We will not destabilize the game just because there is a vocal community here that really wants HC Operations.

Because HC game modes are less popular, that means they have fewer matchmaking servers. Adding or changing game modes is a complicated business. We have to coordinate with Xbox Live, for example, just to make sure we don't overload their servers, too.

We are not, under any circumstances, going to risk the stability or performance of MW3 for the expense of a single feature. This is why Operations are going through considerable vetting and testing, beyond what was seen in the Beta, before we go through with them. I am willing to advocate for this vocal minority (HC Operation wanters) but they will not come before all other parties involved with MW3 have approved.

"higher ups dont want to spend the cash on HC"

Both myself and the IW dev (GHANDI) have been really clear when this is the case. See the MW3 stats thread in this forum, where users were extremely unhappy by the lack of stats in certain objective based game modes. Since this issue is only important to a vocal minority, IW was clear that they would address it, if they could, and only in the future when other problems are solved.

    O am i misreading/misunderstanding something here?

This statement was intended to say: "You guys really missed out on Clan Operations. We're sorry. We'll try to do other things positive for Clans to help make up for it." It has no deeper meaning than that.

Beachhead i know your just a PR guy ment to cool down the threads here.

Actually, I'm not. I'm one of a couple of people who are maintaining this account, all of which are front line developers on ELITE. We're here because it's depressing to work with such an unhappy community. We want to turn it around.

The flip side of being in development, rather than being PR, is that you are going to get the truth from us. Even if it's not what everyone wants to hear right now.

If something isn't ready, we will say: "Not ready."

If something isn't known, we will say: "No idea, looking into it."

Right now, most of our answers consist of "We're working on it, we'll have more to tell you soon." I understand that you'd like more, but this is what we have to give at this point.

If there is one set of answers we'd like you to take from this thread, as BHS, it is the following:

    1. We are sorry that the community has not gotten everything they expected.

    2. We must respect stability, security, and performance priorities before features.

    3. We will commit to more transparency with the community, such as prioritization of features based on community feedback, discussion of features before they land, or timing of features when they enter the final stages of test.

Anyone who can promise you more than this is not working on ELITE.

I really appreciate Beachhead providing us with some information...especially since we were left in the dark for quite a while.

However, there is one very important thing to remember: People were told that an Elite subsciption would include things like Clan Operations/Challenges, and that has not materialized.  It is against the law for anyone to accept payment for goods or services and then not provide those said goods and services.  No matter what the justification is, no matter how many explanations you offer, it doesn't change the fact that Activision/Infinitey Ward/Beachhead/Whoever took people's money and didn't give them what was promised.

My friends and I have been playing Call of Duty for years and we've bought every map pack that has been released.  It's extremely frustrating and disappointing to have supported a franchise for so long and then feel like we been decieved into paying extra for something that wasn't even ready to be released.  To make matters worse, there hasn't been much effort on Activision's part to make up for this gross insult.  You gave us an extra month, but here we are two months into the subscription.  How do you plan to make up for the second month?  What about Janauary?  Why aren't you offering refunds?

I may not represent most gamers, but I imagine there are fair amount of people who feel the same way I do and I can assure you that in future I will not purchase a "service" like elite and I will support the legal action currently being put into motion 100%
