Lagged so bad everyone was teleporting. Started using Google DNS and turned off theater recording and difference is night and day. K/D more than doubled. I'm so happy. Thank You.

Hate to break it to you but I highly doubt that changing the dns doubled your K/D.

Nicely done Mac. I used name bench and it said there was another dns that was 29.4% faster then google's or my ips. I noticed a minor inprovment in web sites, so now to check if it improves the game any. I really wish all of those that come to the forums and claim that they should have a better game because they pay for more bandwidth would ever read this..
I am not sure if it has helped my game any really. It does seem to connect to xbox live a little quicker after the game is loaded. But other then that not much improvement on lag related problems. But then again I play wireless so I expect that to be par for me any ways.
if you play wireless sometimes changing the wireless channel to one alot higher up can give a better signel, as a rule of thumb with wireless the higher the channel the less interference

Macc,
GREAT write up about the UDP's. Believe it not, I almost understood a lot of it (I sit next to my buddy UDP on said short bus, so he explained the parts I didn't understand). But what I don't think a lot of people got from the discussion is what they can do to minimize the chance of packet loss or packet confusion.
Consider me your average reader. I know enough to be dangerous, but I am still not putting all the pieces of the puzzle together right now and need just a bit more hand holding.
I assume, that my best bet is to ensure that the proper ports are forwarded [check], but what else could someone do to make sure they avoid this problem?

Macc,
So after my last question, I went to go see if I have my ports correctly forwarded. While I have the basic Xbox stuff done, I don't have the MW3 stuff. When I see your chart it lists UDP (and TCP) "Start 27000 End 27050". What does that mean? I don't recall seeing an option to start and stop ports. Do I need to forward 50 ports? I think the 33233 is pretty self explanitory.

thats sort of what I was trying to get across with that article theres not alot you/we can do past making sure we have the correct ports open and if you have stuff like QoS setting it up to allow udp traffic to whizz through our own network. the problem is once a (an?) udp packet leaves our "control" it's basically in the hands of the internet g-ds . there are methods that devs can employ to help the little blighters along but in doing so you end up loosing the one good thing of UDP which is speed.
one thing that is "true" is setting the correct mtu, the smaller the packet the less likelyhood of packet loss , this is one area where the game devs can help as a smaller packet size actually creates a better performance for gaming that a higher packet transmission rate.
as you know and getting into areas i dont like discussin on this thread as you know ive said all along blops and now mw3 suffer problems in some part as they generate more traffic (for whatever reason)
