Why is this impossible for IW, 3arc and sledgehammer?

I'm going to use BF3 as an example. This is not to compare bf3 to mw3 at all. I don't even play BF3.
I was wondering, how come they can add new guns in bf3 but not mw3. BF3 gamers just got 10 new guns in a free map pack recently. David Vonderharr at 3arc said things like this would be impossible for them... why? Why did dice manage to add guns in the game but IW and 3 arc can't? From a gaming devolvement point of view... why can't they?
That's probably a rare display of a correct decision on their part. They can't seem to balance the mess they already have on their hands, why add more to the mix to make it worse?
MW3 got loads of guns bf3 can even dream of. Adding 10 guns to bf3 doesn't even come close to this.
Missing the point. BF3 is nearly irrelevant in this. I just wanted to point out that other games they can add guns... why not the most popular game in the world? He used the words "impossible"...
Well, Ea were only able to add those weapons and maps because they were already on the disc and people either had to get the online pass or 1200 MS Points to 'unlock' them. However, when Activision releases map packs, they add to the disc additionally but they can't do it for the weapons so yeah. Activsion could have some weapons on the disc locked which they'll lock it purposely, then they could make the gamers pay to unlock the rest of the weapons but that would mean extremely greedy.

Sorry but it really is impossible. Unless they add the weapons before release and they make the gamers pay to unlock them, they really can't add any weapons additionally like they do with maps.
Why is it impossible though? You seem to be 100% sure it is, but I would like an explaination

Black Ops maxed out the RAM. I can only assume MW3 has as well.
I have always been a big supporter of a gun pack in cod. Can never have to many guns ;)

its a trade off, they only have so much memory avaiable for everything, to have a gun pack you'd need to luanch the game with less guns to start with and add them later, more people would be pissed at less guns than they would at no gun pack.
but you never knew maybe theres already a few hidden guns in game waiting to be unlocked we dont know about ![]()
