We all keep getting sucked into Call of Duty every year, and what brings you back in?
Personally, I love the chance to shoot some new guns, play competitive, and I love the stories of the Modern Warfare Campaigns. What brings YOU back?
DISCLAIMER: THIS THREAD IS FOR PEOPLE WHO LOVE CALL OF DUTY, OR PARTS OF IT. YOU ARE FREE TO CRITICIZE CALL OF DUTY, BUT DO NOT MAKE THIS A HATE THREAD OR CONSOLE WAR. THANK YOU.
Fast paced multiplayer FPS action. I love the game mechanices & the fluidity of the controls. Playing in a team of friends is a big+. Graphics, sounds, guns, maps etc
I agree 100% I forget about the controls sometimes, I think I tend to take them for granted.
Dude this was such a win, I've never seen that before.
Google is definately a magical place of wonder and surprises.
I was quite pleased with this find. ![]()
You have just been 'Bro-Fisted'.
I like the fast action and the CTF.
COD is a joke, this is coming from someone who has deployed 3 times between Iraq and Afgan. If there is any game that deserves to be called realistic it would be Battlefield or Medal of Honor. For the most part COD brings in FPS newbs who think they are good at FPS cause they are descent at COD, bring those same peeps to any other FPS besides COD and they are horrible just like COD is.
I donèt think Call of Duty's were ever meant to be realistic.

Just because the game has realistic elements like physics and graphics, it doesn't mean the whole game is meant to be realistic.
Thank you for your Service Evo6262. I'm a Service Connected Disabled Veteran myself, and I can relate to where you're coming from, but I have to respectfully disagree with you. I've actually been playing CoD since the very 1st one, and the "realistic" aspects of all the games have always been there. BUT, it's always been in a wildly exaggerated way... which allows it to remain fun in my opinion.
Personally, I'd rather not re-live the events I survived in anything close to a "realistic" way. But playing CoD every year has actually been somewhat therapeutic in a weird sort of way. Battlefield and Metal of Honor? Same thing. But for some reason, CoD just seems more... fun. So maybe it's the fun-factor that makes it seem less realistic. But for me personally, that's a good thing. Know what I mean?
There's my 2-cents, for their worth.
Cheers.
COD is a joke of a FPS!
what keep me going back to CoD is:
Nuketown, Firing Range, Shipment, Killhouse and Wet Works.
The first multiplayer game online that I played was haze but its wasnt great there were no challenges then I got MW2 and I seen the challeges and tilles you get that got me hook, but MW2 wasn't my first cod game I had them on PS2 but didn't play online but since mw2 I been hook on multiplaye
ive played most multiplayer games like halo, gow, graw, haze, killzone, battlefront and none of them run as smooth as the cod series
I've been playing cod since 2006. I keep coming back because I'm too stupid to quit -- like a meth addict. I really should be on that A&E show Intervention.
Haha yes. CoD is like a drug. You know that it's bad and horrible, but you just can't stop buying it and using it. Hopefully battlefield 3 will destroy my CoD addiction....
Don't get your hopes up. I've been watching Xcal livestream the closed beta & BF3 is a mess. People fall through the map, no one can party up with their friends, apparently it's wicked laggy, most people just seem to lie prone in bushes & corners & camp like it was Blops. A lot of the players I follow on twitter are mirroring the same complaints. I guess I'll find out for myself Thursday when the beta opens up. Regardless, what's the point of having a beta less than a month before the game launches?
I agree
It's like a sport, it's the same thing all the time but the competitive nature of playing against other people is just addictive.
I personally keep coming back for many reasons; the smooth gameplay, the speed at which it plays, the variety of not only weapons, but also game modes, the competitiveness, and most importantly, the playability (what other game can keep you entertained for almost an entire year?)
Unlike the other games I've played, it doesn't take dozen bullets just to kill just one person.
Definitely the controls and smooth gameplay.
Most other FPS's I play feel bulky and slow. I just can't stand feeling like the characters are a bunch of stiffs.
New iterations faster than Halo. More adaptable than Battlefield. More appealing than Homefront. Better all around than Medal of Honor. King of the 360. Its awesome... when you're not stuck with a team of short bus kids....
It's a drug plain and simple. My first online experience was cod4. I keep coming back 2 the cod series hoping something will replicate the feeling i got with cod4. None of the cod games after that have been able to reproduce the same feelings I had for cod4 but they get closer than any other game and online experience I have had.
It's the fluid movements of the characters, the fluid feel of the controls, and the speed of the game. I just thi for the most part. The game is well thought out and keeps me entertained until the next one. The IW iterations of the game keep me entertained the longest I must say.
CoD4 was very much amazing, I don't think i will ever get that feeling back, I hope MW3 is just as awesome.
Same for me Luckyyd - I'm addicted - Call of Duty has an adrenaline rush no other game I've played has. Started out with me picking up a copy of COD4 for a buddies PS3 - next thing I know I'm out buying my own system - Just to play COD. I've stood out in line at midnight for both MW2 and Black Ops - and I'll be in line somewhere for MW3.
Can't wait - already have Nov. 8th booked off from work.
I love Call of Duty, for the sheer fact of the fast gameplay, incredible graphics, intense story, and lots of GUNS!
Besides, it's a lot better than bunny hopping, shooting at shields, and spamming grenades all day--oops, did I say that out loud?

If you are referring to Halo that sound about right, but usually those kind of words come from a average FPS gamer like yourself. At any given point I would put every penny I have to bet that the top 5 halo players can play COD better that the top 5 COD playing halo any day. Its not to hard to point and shoot and get a kill like it is in COD. As far as Halo is concerned it probably is one of the most hardcore FPS games since the 90's like Unreal Tournament and Quake
The competition between me and my friends. They need to keep bringing splitscreen back and online splitscreen so i can continue to rage with my friends to eat up my free time.
It`s not any one things that keeps me coming back... more so a combination of things. But to sum it up, what keeps me coming back is the feel of the game.

Hm.
Great question.
For me, it's all about the fast paced multiplayer. The constant rewards and "big numbers" on screen (no other way to describe it, really). Being rewarded in game with emblems, titles, and ranking up is something I definitely enjoy. Right now, no other game delivers that in the Call of Duty style (that I've seen).
To be honest, it's the fact that I can actually compete against other players. I know I can maintain a good ratio and that feels good to me. I have my bad games, but when the good times roll, I'm happy.
When you look at COD from COD 4, it has a successful formula when IW added in perks, killstreaks and a levelling up system.
It's simplistic but still an effective formula.
Even other developers use some of COD ideas but the problem is their fanbase. Crysis 2, Homefront, Medal of Honor have used a few of COD's ideas and placed them in their games but the problem is the fanbase that revolves around the game.
I've played COD since COD 1 and I still enjoy it. It's addicting, it's fun. I can grab a few mates & play COD for a couple of hours a day.
There may be a time where I will outgrow the game but for now, I'm still there playing it.
I know that I'm in a VERY small minority, but I keep coming back to CoD for the Veteran Mode on the Single-Player Campaigns.
Weird, I know, but multi-player games have just never appealed to me all that much. Sure, it's fun once in a while... but the enjoyment I get from the challenge of an objective-based mission far outweighs running around a map for 5-minutes at a time trying to rack up the most kills.
CoD's Veteran Mode is by far my favorite element of any of the games I play. No other game even comes close in terms of a challenge to complete. I'm just saying.
I never expected this answer O_O I've beat them all on veteran so far, (starting at COD4) but I hated every minute of it, but I love achievements.
Hahhh! Yeah, I guess I'm right there with you, hating almost every minute... but man it sure is satisfying when you manage to get get past one of those endless-spawning choke points.
I don't know why I love torturing myself like that. Maybe it's that primal power-surge I feel whenever I get stuck at a point in the game that makes me squeeze my Xbox controller so tightly that the battery-pack pops out. ![]()
But seeing those Veteran Map chievos pop sure makes it all worthwhile. ![]()
Hey you ain't the only one. I remember playing VET on COD4. It took me like a week to beat it and WaW was just brutal. But i loved it since the achievemtns/trophies are worth it. I ask my buds if they play Solo and they hate Veteran. I just show them my Playercard and all they see is 3 COD games platinum'd. MW3 will be the next.
I just hope that MW3 Veteran won't be a joke like in Mw2. I beat it in 10 hours with all Campaing related trophies.
I love the excitement of the campaigns. MW2 campaign was my favorite thus far, it just felt the most epic! I really liked the idea of having a character with a voice in the BlackOps campaign though. Mostly though ofcourse I love CoD because of the multiplayer. I love the fact that its fast paced and I love how it has a realistic look with an arcadey action packed style. I love the create a class, choosing weapons, attachments, perks, killstreaks etc. Its fun.
I liked what MW2 did with the Titles and Embles and how it relates to your challenges. I'm glad they are bringing it back for MW3. That's what encourages me to play MP.
Oh and Zombies, if i need a break from MP. ![]()
I love prestiging and the chanllenge to try and unlock all the titles and emblems is what keeps me coming back.
Duuuude... infinite Prestige.... Ultimate idea. (Prestige to the top and then hit the restart button on the prestige store. best idea ever.)
It's arcade style, pick up and play style gameplay.
That, and it just seems really fun to play friends. I hardly play any shooters online by myself, but COD for some reason just goes great with buddies.
