No, Modern Warfare 3 will not use Dedicated Servers on console.
Personally, I don't think we NEED dedis on console. The keyword is need.
A game like Battlefield 3 (an obvious comparison that will likely come up in this thread), does NEED them on console. With maps of that size, massive player numbers per game, and vehicles, how could anyone host that game? The majority of players could not.
So, yeah. Just my opinions on it.

Just because you feel you DESERVE it doesnt mean you are going to get it. You do not deserve anything.
It 1 month before the games release and people are already acting selfish over what they DESERVE.
Tell you what, if you feel you DERSERVE it and you dont get it , then dont buy the game. And then dont come back to this forum.
We already know in advance that there will be no dedicated servers for the Xbox. So if you buy the game then you have no right to cry you want dedicated servers.
And forgive the if its to the wrong person. It seems maybe the new forum is buggy or I havent learned it . First post

I've said it once, I'll say it again; Dedicated servers are not the miracle cure you think they are, they come with their own problems, some much worse than what we have now.
A couple of the biggies are:
- horrendous lag if you are not near one (think Homefront)
- Servers being taken off of old games to use for new ones (if MW3 had them, it would become unusable, as Blops 2 or whatever would take the servers)
Not to mention the main one : They are OLDER technology, why do you think dedicated servers were mostly done away with in the first place?
Finally OP, you get your monies worth every time you play any CoD game, I know I have played every CoD for at least 9 months out of the year, what other game has that kind of insane playability? Apart from maybe an RPG?

Dedicated servers done away with? What have you been smoking, Gears 3 ranked matches are on Dedicated servers and it runs 10x better than the COD games do, please do not post unless you know what the facts are about dedicated servers, most of the AAA shooters run on dedicated servers because they are capable of handling more bandwidth than the average persons home connection and PC, making them more stable and reliable, (no one is streaming movies and has an entire family leaching their connection while they are hosting an COD mp match.
As for not connecting to a server close to you, the major titles rent servers from all over the world so most will not be affected, I cant stress this part the most, how many times have you gotten put into a lobby that is not a very good connection or far away from you in COD? Because it happens to me all the time, but does not happen to me on games like BF, Homefront etc, sure HF wasnt the best game, but it runs awesome for me.
The only people who think dedicated servers are worse than crappy client server p2p connections are the ones uneducated about it, or are cod fanboys, I will take a server dedicated to do one thing and one thing only, (to run COD), over having to rely on the matchmaking system put me in a lobby with someone who has a crappy connection and has been chosen host for some reason.

That's definitely not what I was suggesting.
I'm saying, Call of Duty does not NEED dedicated servers. Peer 2 Peer works perfectly the large majority of the time.
Sure, dedis would be a nice addition to the series, but are they worth the investment? Not really. Not having dedicated servers also enables them to keep older games like Call of Duty 4 up.
If that game was using dedis, I can almost guarantee that you would not be able to play online now.

Saying "Peer 2 Peer works perfectly the large majority of the time." is simply laughable. Have you played Black Oops? The connection in that game is atrocious. I'm under the impression that it's because of the combat record and theater (all of which are run off the host). MW2 did not have those features, but the gameplay was also a lot smoother and connections more reliable. If MW3 has the same combat record and theater features that Black Oops has, but is not running dedicated servers, I'm afraid the connection issues will be just as bad.

Im sorry but your a complete moron tbh, peer to peer is horrible, if like me you played on dedicated servers all around the world for several years in games ranging from AA, CoD and Battlefield and you were subjected to the Mw2 peer to peer sytem the hit detection is a joke, the hit boxes are the size of building and the hit delay is laughable, i dont know world you live in sweetheart but you seriously need to read up on dedicated server and actually play on them, oh by the way when you play a dedicated server you press the PING tab and it'll sort them by lowest first, no doubt your the kind of moron who licks the first one to appear with a ping of over 200, sort them by lowest ping first, i live in the UK and i play on servers from East coast US to Russia/Italy with no issues, i dont join server with 200+ ping, if you do then your a effin retard.
Please keep your opinions to yourself and stay on your console ffs.

You know when you start throwing around words like moron to describe other forum users you might want to double think that as it can come back and hit you on the butt..
for example "sweetheart", hit box size has absolutely nothing to do with what type of server you connect to, so in even mentioning is mornic and shows a complete lack of basic knowledge.
secondly being on a dedicated server doesnt automatically mean you will suddenly have great hit detection and hit delay, again thats based on two main facotrs the actual latency of the game your are playing and how its coded. Fyi "sweatheart" you get just as much latency on a dedicated server as you do on a listen server. You also nowadays are subject to the same algorithms of lag compensation as one of the main cons of dedicated servers is lowest ping wins.

This statement here reaffirms your absolute lack of any tangible knowledge, so you dont have any problems playing east coast , wierd i would've assumed a high ping seeing as the distance involved means its impossible to have a low ping,
But on one area I do agree with you you should really keep your opinions to yourself or just save time . .

Even with dedis you would still be subject to the same matchmaking albeit on a much small scale, which is one benefit of the listen servers we have now you have a larger base to find matches.
Whilst you are correct on the bandwidth being higher on a dedi you also have to consider the cost implications as would/do companies using dedis one area they save money is lowering bandwitdh to something on par with the majority of home users for each lobby run on a dedi. The more lobbies you run off one dedi the lower the costs, and to do that you split the bandwidth between lobbies the only limitations to this come from the processing power of the server and the available bandwidth. Trust on these most companies go for absolute max number of lobbies on a server as they know what their minimun needs are in regards to smooth gameplay.
Its interesting you cite gow3 though as yesterday their entire dedi service went tits up and people were finding they were forced back onto the listen server model that even thru gow3 has dedis they only provide a few in key geographical locations and people still connect to games on listen servers.
I dont think dedis are any better or worse than listen servers each comes with its own set of issues, but for me personally I think keeping cod on listen servers is a wise move overall.

Better to have the dedi's and have the P2P servers as a fall back, I look at it as I have the best connection possible with a few hiccups, downtime for maitenance or the servers just crap out for a while for whatever reason, I guess I just dont care if I cant play a FPS for a few hours or a day, its no big deal to me.
For me, Black Ops was choppy for me about 40% of the time I would say, and my interenet was not great, DSL 12 download and 1 upload, but it is plenty to run a standard COD game, and trust me, if the games were still more barebones like COD4/WAW, I would not care if they were on listens or dedi's, I just think the Elite service and all the stat tracking is more than most home internet can handle at times, along with other apps being run on the same connection.
I think it bothers me that my game experience is depending on what a person pays for with their ISP, as well, that they can easily manipulate their internet, streaming, torrenting, lag switching etc, while playing the game, and if they are host, it affects everyone in the lobby except them, as where if he was doing that on a dedi, he would be lagging around but it wouldnt really help him all that much.
I just upgraded my internet to cable which may or may not be a mistake, maybe that will make a difference for me, but I know alot of the complaints about listen servers are just the reasons I listed, while they can work fine, it still is all down to one persons internet to transfer the game data.

Thank you. I was being cynical to drag an answer out of someone. I know that it has its own problems and I play every cod atleast 1 year and a half before it starts to get boring and I love it. Im talking about the little stuff they could add like extra prizes for doing things more guns even like on GW3 they have cammo's we can buy and curtain funny things we can add on to our characters. I mean I WANT IT ALL WHEN I SPEND MY MONEY I don't know about you but I think we could get alot more. To me the small things are what matter those most. It would be sick to be the only one running around with a chrome gun because you are the only one of few that could pull off a 30 killfeed or something. Things like that are what I want. Or get a all red spas -12 for killing the entire team 3 times over in 20 seconds. Wouldn't you guys love that? I would.

I think it's also not readily known throughout the console community that the PC dedicated servers are usually rented and paid for by the community themselves.

Agreed, it would be great for the console players. However, the cost would be astronomical, and I really don't think Activision should have to fork over that bill when very few, if any, other publishers are using dedi's on consoles. Saying that, if there was a service created, like CoD:Elite in which you paid for dedi's, that would be great.

I wouldn't say consoles are more competitive because the controls are worse. remember that the guys you are playing against also have better control.

mw3 (pc) will have dedicated servers

as long as you have the option to have your own dedicated server, I would believe that's the best solution. it only costs a few bucks a month to rent one, that's nothing.

1- you wont get dedicated servers because that would require alot more work than what it would on pc.
2- you would have to pay for dedicated server like on pc, you sure as hell wont get them for free.
3- you would need to understand how to operate one correctly and with maturity, lets be honest most if not all console palyers would kick others from the server just for being better.
It would be great for our simple cousins on console to get dedicated servers, then we would'nt have to worry about craptivision screwing up gaming and influencing all other developers to go for an infirior system that was dropped nearly 10 or so years ago for a far more supirior system. but hey activision are ****ing idiots and only in it for the money, they claim to listen to what we want but give us crap we neither want or need.

I hate to bring up an ancient thread, BUT PC DOESN'T EVEN HAVE REAL DEDICATED SERVERS. The one platform that actually needs dedicated servers to function properly and they leave it out! They've promised us dedicated servers since day one but spit in our face and just gave us more or less dedicated private matches. As PC players we can't even change our max FPS. I'm sorry my friends but there is no way that Xbox will be getting dedicated servers if they won't even give them to PC. At least this might get noticed by a dev since its in the Xbox section... >.> sigh

There was big rumors going around not so long ago that treyarchs next game will have dedicated servers but after reading an interview with IW executive producer it just aint ever going to happen it would cost far too much to do it properly (billions according to Mark rubin and you know who will have to pay that us which i would be fine with but most wouldnt and then you will be making a thread saying im not buying this game because its costing $30 more)
If Dedis were not done properly more people would have a worse connection than they do now playing on P2P, and i agree ive played some games where they had the dedicated servers in the USA and connecting from england was a horrible experience and sold the game straight away.
Another thing because it would costs so much to run the servers that would be needed what happens 2 - 3 years down the line i tell you what would happen they would have to turn them off because it cost so damm much to run, just imagine not being able to play your fav COD game after a couple of years.
Here read the interview:

Thank you, I was about to direct him to that interview.
I know, for myself, how frustrating dedicated servers can be, if you aren't close enough you may as well resign. P2P is the best option for the majority of players out there and if you refine you search parameters to "Locale Only" you should have a better experience in the game, though it may take longer to find one being played.

All Call of Duty games need dedicated service!
Really, think about people in russia or something with at least 1 person playing Cod online there they have lag America doesn't need dedicated service but ACTIVISION can put dedicated service still because it is NEEDED!

lol u can tel most of these ppl are new to playing games online...dedicated servers = more trouble than they are worth 90% of the time....u guys in here cryin about the lag comp now would be tryin to stage protests and all kinds of idiocy because u wouldnt know the first thing about how to set urself up to play on them and have it work properly...u think its bad now? wait til ur connecting to their dedicated server that is 9000 miles from u and u do nothing but lag...and with dedicated u would have no choice....u expect them to put 100 servers in each country? go price out a top of the line server..im 99% sure most of u crying for this have no idea what it costs just for the hardware alone...not to mention how much it would cost to maintain each one of them...who do u think would pay for that? we would...and it wouldnt be cheap trust me...at least this way if u lag enough it will pick a new host...if on a dedicated ur just S.O.L....IF U DONT BELIEVE ME GO SET UP TO PLAY THROUGH SYSTEM LINK WITH XLINK KAI or some other tunnel program u can put on a pc...watch how stupid u feel setting that up if u have no idea how any of it works...i can just hear the kids cryin now...

i understand your point of cost but when a company earns as much as acti does then it wouldnt really matter. the point your making about setting up your own dedi is correct but in a game like cod they should be supplied so there would be no set up or cost the user end. bf3 dedis where fine untill they decided to let users rent there own and then the trouble starts due to childish admins. theres usually more positives to dedis than negatives but the p2p dosnt cost acti as much as it would cost them for dedis and as a company who wants to make as much cash as they can we wont ever see them on this generation of console.
