Has anyone figures out what the ports MW3 uses? So we can also try forwarding them

I like how I keep seeing people post about QOS.

QOS is not going to help with you gaming situation.

I stopped reading right here.  Why?  Because you clearly don't have a clue.  For people who are on a busy home network a properly configured QoS scheme can and -will- help.  Will it help somebody that has next to no traffic on their LAN when they game?  No.  But it will, without a doubt, help somebody that is on a busy LAN.  So either your LAN isn't busy or it is and you fail at configuring QoS, one or the other.

I think this thread should be stickied. So many people who complain about lag I doubt know anything about their routers or the internet.

I definitely appreciate everything Maccabi has done for this thread and the thread before this on the BLOPS forum, and for even taking his own personal time to answer some of my questions and try to help me. With that being said, I actually did go out and invest in a new modem. Now I know Mac did not tell me I had to do it, but in reality it did make perfect sense. I'm already paying Comcast $8 a month just to rent a piece of junk from them (did some research and the one I had is not highly regarded). My friend is also a manager at my local best buy, so I got a quality modem and assurance from him that if I did want to return it for some reason I could. Even if it didn't help the game, I'm saving myself money and getting a better produt. And after all that, unfortunately I can say my game still plays the same. Still the same effects and symptoms that have been described before. At this point I can say I have exhausted all options on my end to get the game to run correctly, but now I can 100% say that YES it is in the game. As far as the time I spent making these changes, I can say they were for the better, so I'm glad I did them. However, alas, I have not cured the game haha. But I can take solace in the fact that I know I've done my part. Now it's in the developers' hands.

Sorry, should've done this a while back but been playing MW3 a bit too much.

I have been speaking to Mac via Twitter & the Forums on improving my host connection and has slightly improved my game a bit.

It's not like a "OH MY GODZ, IT'S MADE THE GAME SO MUCH BETTER" but it has slightly improved my host connection.

    What I had before:

    - MTU was at 1492

    - No QOS settings

    What I've done:

    - Lowered my MTU to 1364 (Mac has a guide to MTU) - Please be aware that lowering your MTU can affect a few websites BUT hasn't affected me so far.

    - Used QOS (Mac advised on setting my QOS on my router for my XBOX 360)

    After doing this:

    - I've noticed that it rarely gives me that insta-kill WTF death. It happened to me constantly before.

    - Sync issues - I feel on sync with the other players most of the time. Before it was aim, hitmarkers first, die. Now, it gives me that chance to shoot back.

    - I'm getting much better games against players who use to own me when I was hosting a couple of weeks ago.

I don't want to say this (about e-peen ratio) but before I altered my router settings, I had a 1.35 K/D. After the changes and with host, I have a 1.48 K/D.

Please be aware that these changes affected me when I'm host. 4 bar plays fine for me when I wasn't host but when host, it plays slightly better.

I'm not saying that this will be a fix for everyone but I ask that you do try it out and see if this does improve your connection.

If it doesn't, I apologise but if it does, please thank Mac for advising other players for optimising their connection.

People need to understand that Mac is here to give advice and he has done a damn good job on it. I'm sure he has better things to do but he comes on the forums just to give a player a better experience.

So I'm asking is to give Mac some credit instead of bashing him for helping others for improving their connection.

Hope this helps & thank you Mac

Here's a virtual beer to you:

Also, a reminder that there will a patch to address "lag compensation" which has been stated by the Stealth Clown himself.

If Mac's solution isn't helping you, I suggest waiting for the next title update to address lag issues.

    Cheers

    @ Soth

I am not sure what firmware or router you are able to run but I am pretty sure that there is not a router or firmware out there that has the ability to limit upload speed on an individual IP address.... which is what pretty much everyone on here that says to use QOS is trying to do.  I do hope you understand that upload speed is the main thing here...

Yes QOS can limit your bandwidth, upload and download, but it will not limit your upload to a single Ip address... so you saying that a person can use QOS to help with their gaming connection is incorrect.  A person can use QOS to limit bandwidth overall but not by individual IPs.

So yes I am right and you are a fool.  Correcting people is actually more fun than playing MW3!
