I don't understand why they would ban anybody for this. If they didn't want people doing it then why the hell did they put the option to do it in the game?

    Oversight. Unintended. Mistake. Bug.

Whatever you want to call it.

Thats like saying "if they didn't want people in the truck on outpost why' can people do it?!?!"

    It's not an option.

You have to manipulate the controls and/or menu to make it happen. Nor is it in any literature on the game nor is it presented as an aspect of the game anywhere by the developer. That means it is not an "option." It's an exploit.

Everything in that is legitimately possible in the game is available on the game menu. The single exception is the MOAB - but the developer openly stated that the MOAB was a normal, possible part of the game. There is nothing that says, "Oh, yeah, and we made it so now you can put controller button icons in your clan tags! Yeehaaw!!!! Woohooo!!!"

Here's what all you tools sound like in defending this nonsense:

    9:05 AM  17 APR 2011 Infinity Ward Conference Room # 212:

    • Design Leader: Okay. What can we bring new to Call of Duty the fans will just love?
    • Designer 2:  Let's bring the nuke back.
    • Designer 3: No way! We'll be hunted down and killed if we do.
    • Designer 2: Damn. That sucks but you're probably right.
    • Desigher 4: How about we have three different ways you can earn kill streak rewards?
    • Design Team: Yeah! That's genius!
    • Designer 2: Hell yeah! Hey, I know! We can also give players the options of putting controller button icons in their clan tags!
    • Design Team: [silence as they give Designer 2 a cold stare]

Putting you in your place when you cuss people out for being wrong, when you're even more more wrong is not trolling pal. Learn the definition. And keep making assumptions about my personal life based on the hour or so i go on the PC a day. It's HIL-AR-I-OUS.

I report whoever I see with the clan tags. I've been seeing less of them everyday and honestly, It's nice to have people on my team whose names don't cover up my HUD

I report EVERY. SINGLE. PERSON I see with modded clan tags. Both in game and via Xbox live.

I don't seen why people are having an argument over this, if it doesn't bother you then just get on with your game because what the rest of us are doing has no affect on you.  I find it incredibly annoying especially when I see it in the game blocking my view.  I am reporting every single one I see and I must be doing at least 30 a day while I'm waiting for games to start.  99% of the people who are doing this are kids, very few are over 18 and I would say to all those who hate the screaming kids playing this game (Who shouldn't be playing it anyway)  here is your way to get rid of them for good.

Actually, it is a hack and an exploit. A hack is something you do to alter the normal or intended function of the particular coding. The alteration of the coding is done by finding an. EXPLOIT or weakness that allows it to happen. The code is exploited therefor it is a hack. Simple logic.

What is the severity of the hack? Totally irrelevant since we all agree to the TOS not to mod, alter, hack etc.

I have a thought as far as the effort put into it hacking.  Someone has took the effort (maybe hours who knows?) to find the exploit. They then share it on you tube and various forums and that means someone is looking for it or looking for other ways to cheat and find this particular hack. No one is finding this unless they found it themselves or they were taught it by some other means. So yes the argument of "what else have they been looking for?" is valid as the intent to violate the TOS in someway has already been shown.

Everyone paid their $60 to play this game. To report people is your own personal choice but keep in mind two questions. 1. Would you let anyone cheat you out of $60? 2. Then why would you let them cheat you out of enjoying the game you paid $60 for?

I read the Modern Warfare 3 twitter and one guy asked if he will be banned for using the xbox buttons in the clan tag. To which MW3Updates replied "No, but it will probably get patched soon".

Dunno if this was posted earlier in this 6 page thread. But I honestly hate the clan tag exploit.
