Trying to Understand the Lag Problem

Some have it.  Some don't.  Lag.  It's noticeable at the points of a gunfight and clearly seen watching killcam.  I am in cover, but killcam shows me ten feet out.  Or I emptied an entire clip into someone only for killcam to show that he started shooting at me before I ever turned around.  This just isn't fun.

For me the MP is not playable at the moment because it is so bad.  I don't get it.  I have read Elegaphant's tome on setting up the correct stuff.  Done.  I have turned theater off and on and back off again with no effect.  I have never had a problem with MW2, BF3, Blops, or Gears2/3.  It is just MW3.

I have a very cheap connection (Verizon) and from my understanding I am supposed to be favored with lag compensation against players with a better connection.  Here are my details: AVG: 31-33 Ping, 4.75 down and 0.70 upload.  OPEN NAT.  I know it's not great, but what doesn't make sense to me is that I never had a problem with any other game.  Of course, I had the occassional laggy game in blops but it was usually 1 out of 50 games.

I'm not that great of a player.  My KDR for BLOPS is around 1.25.  But I know that I am better than my ever decreasing KDR in MW3.  I was at 1.05 and a few games later I am getting ready to go under 0.80.  I stopped playing MP with the hopes that this will be fixed.

What is your internet connection stats?  Do you have lag?

I have 10 down/1 up and 45 ping, yet I still get killed behind solid walls.

Its some kind of internal problem that needs to be fixed.

I vote for dedicated servers, or atleast to elite subscribers.

Your internet should be handling the game good enough.

I have cable broadband which is wirelessly connected to the xbox. I get 15mbs down and 3mbs up. Lags like hell, simply can't play mp at all. I've also tried all the advice going except I can't try a wired connection.

I want to reset my progress because it's not representative of my performance... very disappointed with the mp element of this game.

DSL, 24/1 Mbit, low latency (pingtest.net test to the nearest server (50 miles) is 12ms, 1ms jitter). Open NAT. Terrible lag all the time. I also tried turning off theater mode, not sure if it helped at all. Maybe for  the spikes I started having after the 1.03 patch, but the lag is definately still there.

Something is horribly wrong with this game. In MW2 I had perfect connections 99% of the time.

Re: Trying to Understand the Lag Problem

I dont know if you understand about internet bandwidth but that "0.7 upload" that you put there I would guess could be anything from 650 to 750 kbps that is kilo BITS per second. That's just not enough for online gaming. I have 830 kbps upload and I always had lag. I had lag in Black Ops, I had lag in Counter Strike back in it's day, I have lag in every game because that's how it is, nothing I can do about it. Of course if you play with people from Europe for example, the ping could be anywhere from 150ms(divine intervention) to the normal 250-300ms.

Of course there could be a problem in this game I dont know as I only played 1 multiplayer match so far and I didn't notice lag. I fact I could even take my time(like 3 seconds) to kill the enemy that was running towards me, a thing that's not happening in Black Ops( in there I'm 1 second behind the enemy).

PS: Don't worry, soon you will read posts like "Get a better connection" from the usual evil bastards
