How does 'Unlock Gear' In Prestige shop work?

I'm a bit confused just to how this works.
I watched the video with Robert Bowling and he said you can choose to unlock a piece of gear and carry it through your prestige level/s.

That's where i got confused, if you unlock a piece of gear do you unlock it forever, or only for that prestige?
Any help would be appreciated.

nobody really knows yet it could be a gun or maybes equipment might even be a whole costum class we will just have to wait and see

I'm guessing for the prestige. And correct me if I'm wrong, but do you get a token every time you prestige?

  Yeah you get a token everytime you prestige, you also get 1 if you've prestiged in a previous COD game (4 in total via that method)

I believe I saw a tweet a while back that said you can unlock 1 thing from the create a class menu permanently just like Extra Class is permanent

Thanks everyone, i think i'll probably be sinking most of my Prestige Points into Unlock Gear and extra custom classes.

  yeah, same here. The ACR, or AK47 will be unlocked permanently for me, maybe even a decent perk if they are included, along with all custom classes.

    I think from 1-80 I'll probably test out everything and then when i hit prestige i'll decide what to spend my points on (i'll have 5 by that point).
    I personally don't see much point in buying the double XP options until you have everything else you want as it's a waste of a point in my eyes

Assassin Pro

They stay with me forvever.

Will prestige again shortly and m thinking about the next unlock. Will probably be a Perk.
