Call of Duty Elite: Community questions for Elite Devs

So, I got a cool email today that the community can benefit from. I've been given the opportunity to collect questions that fans, like us, would like to have discussed by the developers behind Elite. I can only take about ten to fifteen of them and certain questions can't be answered. This thread, and it's sister threads, will be heavily monitored and moderated. Let's jump to some guidelines and explanations.

If your immediate question is "what is Call of Duty Elite?" Follow this link:

http://www.callofduty.com/elite

Questions that will not be taken:
• Pricing
• Modern Warfare 3 Exclusives

Discussion for those topics will be coming later in the summer so there is no point in asking them now.

Q: When will questions be answered?
A: I don't have a time-frame for that. Let's settle on "soon."

Q: Will I be given credit for my question?
A: I was never given a guideline for this, but for the sake of community let's keep them anonymous. If you have a great question...we'll know who it was.

Q: Why are you asking us this? Can't you see the -BLAM- HC threads?
A: Yes, I do see them. The development team that created Elite is entirely independent from Multiplayer design. The devs there can't change anything about multiplayer here.

Please realize that this is your chance to come together and voice a concern. Comments made to attack and berate the service or any other users will be removed and your account risks temporary or permanent reprimand.

Ask away!

I think those are probably the two most important questions that people will have. Wonder why they don't want people asking about that. I'm sure they already know the answers. They wouldn't introduce this service and decide later on what to charge.

I guess the only real question I have is:

Is this going to be the "major site update" that JD was talking about at some point? People had been asking about the "in-depth stats" that can be viewed online, and JD would only keep saying that it was still in the works and would be released soon. I'm curious if this is it, or if that'll still be coming.

Will Elite feature the actual gun stats or just the BS Bars? I get tired of going back to Den Kirson all the time to check and it would be nice to have that intergrated in a way.

EDIT: Also how will you pay? Will it be with a credit card or could you pay through MS points?

Will Elite be accessible from a gaming console like the way Valve did with Steam on PS3?

Will I need to sign up with elite (not talking about $)  to play any future CoD title?

Will it be theater mode or will that be on the CoD title?

Can I use my xbl sign in for the site like other sites (ex: bungie.net)?

Is there any in game incentives to elite? (ie 110% CoD points earned, 110% XP)

Why was it decided to create CoD Elite separately from future CoD releases? Why can't those features come standard on each disc?

Has there been any considerations to bundle CoD Elite subscriptions with special editions of MW3?

Discuss how much extra content will be supported for Black Ops.

Out of all the features mentioned so far, my favorite is how I can change my classes on my computer or phone. My question is: Out of all the features, what are some of the Devs most excited for?

Also, one more question: Will CoD Elite offer any kind of features for clans? The reason why I ask is because some of my friends on XBL are in a clan and they keep talking about how they hope that CoD: Elite will have some feature that helps with clans and stuff.

Thanks for considering my questions and I hope to hear from you all shortly.

Actually, I was about to ask that question as well.

I would consider purchasing the Hardened edition of MW3 if there was a free trial for COD Elite Premium (depending on what Activision & Beachhead Studios are providing) + any special deal (e.g. maps) with the Hardened Edition.

    This is my second question:

So far, all that has been stated so far in COD Elite is in-depth stats, Theater Mode & Prize Challenges.
What makes the COD Elite service so "special" & "unique" compared to what other developers/publishers provide in the gaming market?

Will there be a phone app for Call of Duty Elite?  For iPhone, Android, and other operating systems?

This may answer your question mate:

You can access Elite from many devices.
One of the goals is to let fans interact with Call of Duty when they’re not able to play it — at lunch, on a bus, whatever. If you’re thinking about it, why not pop in and see what’s new on your stats and leaderboards? The web interface is the most obvious way to access Elite, but mobile clients are in development too (hello, iPad), as are console-specific apps. The Activision version from the FAQ: “We’re designing Call of Duty Elite to be widely accessible and customized for a number of platforms — via web browsers, through the game, and through mobile applications as well – including iPhone and iPad, as well as Android tablets and smartphones.”

Not trying to troll or be offensive, but if you need to be able to access stats/tools related to a videogame all the time on different devices, it seems kind of sad.

    The truth hurts.

My question is - 'what features of Elite are charged for'?

The free features are quite extensive as it is.

I'm growing less interested in COD elite as time passes.  There are just too many good games coming out to focus on this as something great for gaming.

COD Elite is a free service (stats tracking, theater mode etc) but with added premium features for those willing to pay a monthly subscription.

Will Call of Duty Elite work similarly to a Subscription-based-mircotransaction-system towards cosmetic  items such as a larger verity of character skins, emblems, character clothing, and etc. Thank you for your time.

Will locating your new freinds with "likes - dislikes, etc" and being able to join with them be a free part of the service or is it part of the paid package ?

Can I be able to get the video files to my PC so as to have longer videos and such ? And if so is that free ?

do you have a list of the items that WILL BE in the paid portion of Elite ? And what exactly will be in the free portion ?

As someone who doesn't plan on paying for Elite, what are going to be my disadvantages to players who do pay for it, if any?

Is there a set amount of DLC's that can be expected to be released each year?

Finding clips, working camera angles, and then cutting them to fit a 30 second time limit is a cumbersome effort the way theater is set up now. Will theater mode allow full length matches to be saved, uploaded, and (most important of all) downloaded to my PC so I can edit the material more easily?

Will the service be able to link at least stats from other COD game titles (MW1, WaW, MW2, BO)? If not, why? If yes, can the obviously hacked stats & players be deleted? Those titles still have followings and this service would generate revenue after the fact that should allow for at least that support.

However, the following two questions are most important to me:

    1.   Clearly this new offering is an Activision commissioned project (the end of the Elite trailer gives a tiny preview of MW3). However, after the fiasco that IW went through, how confident can users and fans be that such interruptions will not happen in the future? And if they do happen, how will they affect the Elite service?

    2.   The ability to look up stats was great with World at War. In every release, it has been exciting to watch personal ranking in comparison to friends and to other players. However, not complaining about what's done being done, but how can we be sure the service will not be corrupted by people with 24 seconds played and 24 trillion points/kills/wins?

Will Call of Duty Elite work with older CoD games?

I would really like to play World at War and Call of Duty 2, but there are so few players online.

Maybe you could dedicate one weekend of every month to an older CoD game by organizing tournaments, challenges etc.

Will work only on Black Ops, MW3 and possibly future COD titles I'm afraid.

From what I've seen Call of Duty: Elite seems geared towards players who play with clans and teams. My question is, as a solo player who rarely plays with friends, will there be any advantages for a solo player paying for the Elite service?

Since we will be able to change classes from our smart phones, wouldn't that mean we will be able to change classes while playing?

I know that COD Elite will be integrated into the multiplayer for MW3, but will it also track stats in other game modes like theater, campaign, and the spec ops mode for MW3? also, how in depth will the stat tracking go? will it offer user customization options?

    1. Does COD Elite interact with the game during actual MP gameplay (the whole changing classes on fly thing is bit vague)?
    2. Is there an option to turn it off, so it does not talk to my game during MP gameplay?  Shouldn't I have this option if I don't want it to possibly bog down my internet connection?

This could probably be formulated into one question, but I wanted to separate them here so it is understood what I am going after.

Another question, but completely separate thought process:

    1. Will COD Elite be able to track MP matches NOT FINISHED (this would include, but not be limited to quitting early as well as dashboard/powering off)?

Please understand that this is completely different then "complete games", as gamer's that enter a match partially completed, but finish the game are obviously not given credit for "complete games", but they did finish the match.

Sorry if someone else has already asked this one:

Will one of the premium features of Elite be the ability to upload entire games instead of the rather restricting 30 seconds limit? And will there be any improvement in the rendering quality?

No disrespect meant with the question. I've really enjoyed the addition of theater mode.

Will HD video rendering in theater be possible?

    If not,

Will full length games be able to render?

    Or both?

The quality at the moment is not fantastic, you can't even make out the names in the killfeed.

I live in New Zealand and MW3 has a rating of R16 and i am 16. So i legally purchased the hardened edition of MW3 and then i get told after i have bought it that Call of Duty Elite has an age restriction of 18????? how is this fair? im legally allowed to buy the game but have wasted my money because IW made a dumb age restriction on Elite and didnt tell anyone about it untill after heaps of people with the same problem as me have already wasted their money.... if they put the age limit on Elite so that everyone who was entering the tournaments and competitions for prizes then why dont the take the age limit of Elite and make it that the players who are under 18 years just cant participate in the tournaments...

what can they do to fix the age limit?
