Depending on how you look at it, it is different but any way CoD 5 already came out. CoD 5 is World at War. In terms of the main series of CoD games there is Call of Duty 1, 2, and 3, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, CoD World at War, Modern Warfare 2, and then Cod Black Ops.

And as UnrulyCitizen  stated and the reason i said main series is because there were many other CoD games. The thing is CoD: Finest Hour is technically the first CoD game and CoD 2: Big Red One is the second one which is part of the main series which was released for conoles whereas the games that were named just CoD 1 and CoD 2(not the same games as Finest Hour and Big Red One) were for PC and Mac.

Although if you want to go into the number of installments than WAW is technically the 5th installment although they don't call it by number now. I think you may of been thinking about the next CoD game coming out which is Modern Warfare 3 that is planned to be released around November of this year if that's what you were thinking of?

As for will CoD 5 ever come out, I don't know. if they keep releasing Call of Duty games which one could be classified as CoD 5 and would they actually name it that. I think for the better of the game and everyone keeping numbers out if the title is good. Exception though to Modern Warfare since they broke it off and it seems they are going to make it a brand new series so the number would sort of fit but they could still add something after the number like they did with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Also to "krustyjuggler" if I was you I'd look forward to Modern Warfare 3, I'm not going to lie and say it's going to be good or if you even liked the Modern Warfare part of the series but Only a little bit of Infinity Ward is working on it. From what i've heard Activision is letting what's left of IW work of the single player along with the company Sledgehammer games, and as for multiplayer Raven Software is working on that. I'm hoping that the extra people working on MW3 may help it get more quality than it's predecessor and we could be looking at a totally new game in MW3, and maybe just what the CoD series as a whole needs to show that CoD really is as good as sales numbers and such says that it is.

Numbers have nothing to do with a games position in a series anyway, look at Super Mario 64...
