I like them how they are, bigger problems to worry about.  

Agreed.  You have to remember that the principle advantage to a pistol is that it can be swapped to quickly (not that it matters, but that's mostly the reason real soldiers carry sidearms, I believe; a rifle is a better tool in most situations).  So, some weakness is to be expected; besides, they fire fast enough it's almost an insta-kill if you're in someone's grill.

Pistols are perfectly Fine.

IMO, they are just fine the way they are.
