Oddly, this guide suggests adding the PS3 to a DMZ *AND* setting up port-forwarding.

This is exactly right, and it exposes a major bug/flaw in most home-grade routers. Specifically, in a home-implementation a DMZ is not a DMZ. In the home implementation, the DMZ host is only outside of the SPI firewall; it does NOT have all ports open - as would be the case in a commercial DMZ implementation. All DMZs are not equal. The vendors are just protecting users from themselves.

From the other end of the problem, if you have only configured port-forwarding, but your machine is not in a DMZ I.E. still behind the router firewall, you'll still suffer very bad lag, but this time from the SPI firewall tracking the vector of each external packet.

I suffered terribly with lag with my PS3 only being in a DMZ - to the point I *never* saw my bullets hitting an enemy while watching their kill-cam view. In their kill-cam I look like, I'm just sitting there like a monkey appearing not to even fire - whereas from my in-game perspective, I emptied a whole mag and they still just killed me by magic!

After adding the PS3 to both the DMZ and configuring static port-forwarding as per the above link, I see my bullets raining down on the enemy for the first time while watching their kill-cam - the game is now fair and working for the first time!

This works, this is *the* fix, well done Treyarch, I can finally play your game as you intended and not sit there like a moron!

As it is so counterintuitive to implement a DMZ host and port-forwarding, I suspect the barrage of criticism Treyarch receive is likely due to the fact 95% of home-router vendors are being over-careful, and more effort needs to be done to inform all users - such as a message-of-the-day actually in game, and some kind of test-server to enable PS3 users to actually measure their lag stats/validate the configuration. Seeing your own bullets hitting the enemy for the first time is a very deterministic test, it's not an absolute measurement, which would be more useful.

I can only surmise that the port PnP stuff isn't implemented in the PlayStation and/or BO2 correctly as that *should* open all the ports the game requires when the PS3 is in the DMZ. Maybe that's the true root-cause.

I can now snap-shoot close range with SMGs for the first time since the game was released and actually win the 'draw' rather than die 100% of the time. This makes the game very deterministic and consistent from one match to the next.

Also, as an English resident, I'm getting added to USA matches for the first time in 3000+ games. This proves this change is radical.

Router (Linksys) Cisco E4200, firmware 1.0.05.

I can also regress this change by turning off static port-forwarding rules, which proves it's a true fix and not a fluke coincidence.

Camping - Stategic or annoying?

In your opinion is camping strategic or is it just noobs sitting and no skill involved. Personally i really don't think its that annoying but sometimes when it's blatent i have no skill so lets get noob tube one man army stealth perks and sit in the corner... then i get mad. And then it loses the game for me because i just keep going for him and feeding his kills.

And on Black ops equipment like Camera spike,decoy and motion sensor, it looks like the camping continues. There is always the rc car.. but we'll have to wait for the 9th to see.

What are your thoughts?

I play Call of Duty: Black Ops on PS3 and when I played on the 15th of February I got negative pts all of a sudden and my ranking was gone and reset when I turned it on again. I was prestige 15!! Now I'm back to lvl 1 and I have 2 mill pts to go before I can ever reach lvl 2???

I can't find any helpful answers or help at all not even from activision.

I feel sorry for all who's been in the same boat.

How is this even possible that people can ruin it for those of us who play fair? Can SOMEONE tell me what to do? I need help!!

I joined a game of Express. I ran in and got the first kill of the match and was awarded 1x1203912357 points. I thought it was odd but didnt really thing much off it and continued playing. Immediately after, I start getting messages from a TaakaOG telling me to back out. And not to worry that my XP will stick. I thought it was odd so I backed out and now I have Negative 99978895 points and level 1 again. it wont let me join any public matches or anything. Im just simply stuck. So I did some research. TreyArch basically says tough stuff, your smoked. Others say you have to hack it to "unhack" it. That is not something I think I would be capable of myself. Any help would be appreciated. Also, If anyone knows how to get rid of TaakaOG and get him banned I think the other players would appreciate not being put in the same possition That i am in.

Hola a todos espero me puedan ayudar apenas hace dias estaba jugando con 2 amigos en una partida y bueno todo normal desdes de la 6 partida

entre a jugar en el mapa WDM y bueno cuando empezo la partida al atacar al enemigo me salio un extraño codigo -1e+09 y me salia menos -30 000 puntos y bueno al terminar la partida mi nivel 50 del prestigio 15 bajo a nivel 1 con mi prestigio 15 normal con minimo menos un millon de experiencia para subir y al igual que el dinero me gustaria saber como restablecerlo tengo el video y los usuarios que hicieron esto posible pero me gustaria que me ayudaran lo mas pronto posible no se a donde recurrir y es mi primer problema por aqui buen dia

I was playing in a nuketown when i realized the mortar strikes just.. weren't ending! I noticed who the boosters were and recorded the match from theater mode, these kids need to be banned and this needs to be fixed before it becomes more widespread.. but then again they refuse to fix anything for black ops now that i think about it but 3arc you can atleast ban these little babydicks.. i found a YouTube video about the exploit with a tutorial involving modification of the saved game data.. also question can they be reported to PSN for this?

Tengo un problema y espero se pueda resolver

Hace unas horas estaba jugando Domination en Firing Range

Y sucede que mate a un hack al parecer pero como fue sorpresivo, no pude hacer nada para evitarlo, ni si quiera sabia que en el juego habia uno

Se preguntaran como lo se, es simple, se arrastaba por el suelo como si fuera una ola de mar

Despues de terminar la partida me marca mi saldo negativo al igual que mis puntos de experiencia

Yo estaba intentando llegar al prestigio 15 y hoy estoy un poco mal por que estoy buscando respuesta y solo encuentro negativas de que no se podra resolver.

En el momento de juego llevaba el nivel 26 del prestigio 10

Pero cuando inicio me marca estar en el nivel 1 del prestigio 10

Crei que en algun momento cambiaria a el original pero nada
