My only problem is that i can't hear ninja footsteps until a guy a litterally 5-10 feet behind me which will get me killed if im not hiding in my various spots. My question is, is the x41 going to improve from what i can hear right now by a lot. Basically i want to hear someone with dead silence ninja watever when they are 20-30 feet behind me for the most part. I figure with 7.1 surround sound i can hear the other cues easier but mainly just worried about those footsteps

Like the map with the train that would go through from time to time, and the DLC one that had missles taking off every 30 secs. Both of those events would nearly deafen me every time, as most environment sound in Blops werent that loud, so I could crank the sound up to hear footsteps better.

Half the time in MW3 there are explosions, gun fire, and kill streaks in the air making so much noise it doesnt really matter if you have an expensive headset/surround system or not, you cant hear jack.

The px5's have adjustable presets, so Im trying to figure one out that will dampen out the loud and increase the lows.

The newer version have a volume knob on the decoder but jeez, this Tritton sounds cheap. I had it for a week and I couldn't stand it. The sound is just horrible so I got myself a Creative Recon3D, paired it with my Turbine Pro and the sound difference is like night and day. The bass is really boomy and the surround is like what you'll get in a dedicated PC sound card. I know there's still room for improvement and I'm currently looking at acquiring a Sennheiser PC 320 or a Grado SR80i. I used to have a Grado SR60 and the sound stage was amazing. It's unfortunate that my Grado didn't live long enough to get paired with my Recon3D.

Btw, the environment sound on MW3 seems too loud and the chickens on Seatown scream. Returned the 720's and got TB PX5's. They are working out great so far. Now I know why it seems like some people are setup waiting for me when I dont use dead silence, because with the right headset you can tell direction and somewhat the distance. Don't take the advice of anyone who swears by them because they are trying to justify being cheap. Tritton's have great sound and you'll hear Dead Silence users. Unfortunately, the headsets are cheaply made and you'll end up with a broken mic within a month - the headset will remain ok for a few more.

A40's are worth the price. Sound quality isn't that much greater than the Trittons but they are built to last. My 5.1's were passed down and still in use now that I've upgraded to the 7.1's. Don't be cheap.

Isn't that the point of dead silence to silence footsteps, this is my weakness, and even running sit rep pro(louder enemy footsteps) doesnt help i think your headset is fine. Your just not supposed to hear them.

Personally I use the razer carcharias which is a PC headset, but I just plug them into my TV. These are nice and comfortable but I'd rather use Tritton's, had AX720. This ones ( Bravo) have surround 7.1 audio yet I still can't hear absolutely anything unless I am playing on a map that doesn't have too much enviroment noise.. like Lockout, etc. Thing is, I've got some friends that got cheaper TB's and they can hear enemy footsteps (even if they're using deadsilence) like if they were in Mw2 or CoD 4.

MW3 doesnt have an adjustable sound board like all the other CoDs. The enviroment is to noisy. To much going on. Even with sitrep pro or ninja its difficult to hear footsteps and nuanses like reloads or nades beeing pulled. But if you decide to go with a headset dont get a stereo one. Make sure it does surround. Turtle beach x41/px500, Tritton ax720/axPRO/Warhead, or Astro A30/A40. Honestly the A40 are a favorite amongst pros and high caliber players
