Then I started to notice how rampant the cheating was. Stopped playing for about 6 months well just picked the game back up figuring they should of been able to fix most of the glitches and get rid of the dirt bag cheaters but wow there is more now than there used to be.

I will never play this game again I lover First person shooters but I must say these damn cheaters ruined these games forever.

ppidrive wrote:

This has been a rather good thread for the most part, and it is sad. I know Activision is not a part of Microsoft so they cannot do as much, but it would be cool to see the dev's of MW3 taking measures like T10 is in Forza 4. Turn 10 has developed an approach to people caught cheating in their game that is rather simple - you violated XBL or T10 Terms of Use, they ban your gamer tag and console ID. Done. you get a new console, ok, you get a new credit card - ok, but you need a new name too. They don't want people cheating and sure it took a lot of time and money, but they are cracking down and now their game has almost no cheating. Sure, people exploit a glitch or two here but it's a large minority - maybe 100 or less players.

I know Activision may not have the pwoer to do this, but it wouldn't hurt. Banning a gamertag works, but what's to stop the person from making a new account and doing the same thing again and trying not to get caught. sure the T10/M$ method is harsh but hey; you know the rules, you chose to break them, you're done. It works that way in the real world. You're caught cheating in the Olympics, major league sports - you get banned and cannot participate again.

I like some of the ideas you throw out there, don't get me wrong ...

but starbuckfrack is right - they are not banning credit cards.

I have never played Forza, but I can tell you I've been eyeing the game a pretty good while now since Sony WON'T RELEASE GRAN TURISMO TO XBOX!!!!! (rearend wipers!).

Nonetheless, the game sounds similar enough to GT that I am pretty sure I know what they are talking about when they say they are removing credits within the Forza economy.

Each time you win a race you earn "credit." You use that "credit" to purchase more cars or upgrade your cars.

Hence, hacked credit means there are people that have more credit than they actually won playing the game legitimately.

Nonetheless, I do like the idea of a name ban. The problem is, you do not have to use your actual name to create an account. I know for a fact there are people out there that create multiple, temporary accounts simply so they can get 30 days free play time on XBL. Who would want to waste their time with an account they know they are only going to get to use for 30 days?

Boosters.

I think it would be much easier for a MS related company to ban ISPs, gamertags, and consoles, no doubt. Whether or not they would actually do all of that, I agree with starbuck - probably not. Why? Because it would not be fair to other developers that provide content for XBL. Activision could file an anti-competion suit against MS ... MS has the means to remove cheaters and hackers from the game but will not share that process with a competing software developer. This results in MS having an unfair advantage over competing software developers - an advantage ONLY MS controls.

Can't do that, even if they have the means to do it - without also providing the means to ANY and ALL software companies licensed to create content usable on the Xbox Live service.

They are in fact a part of Microsoft, not simply owned by it.

As I said they are not banning consoles for cheating. And they cant ban them for cheating .

Quoted "in the cased of confirmed credit hackers, we are banning their consoles". Hacking is a totally different animal.

T10 started from their parent compnay Microsoft Game Studios in 2001 and you can see all over the internet they are OWNED by Microsoft. Hence the reason for having MS Terms. They are an internal developer located in the same spot as Microsoft, which is Redmond WA. The location is the same building as well known as 1 Microsoft Way. You can even look hat up. For reference you will need the zip code 98052.

Even if you want to say they are just a "part" of Microsoft it doesnt matter they still follow MS procedures. But they are considered a subsidiary of MS studios. and when you check them out you will find they are just a development wing of the entire MS structure.

Again T10 does not ban people. Microsofts PET members ban people. They are the only section of Microsoft that takes care of the banning. Thats is one reason why you notice the MS Terms of Use and the Code of Conduct are linked to the main Microsoft policy. No other additional terms are needed nor implied. The procedures are then handled by the PET division of Microsoft who does everything including investigations, Gamertag banning, and console banning if needed.

That fact is noticable in the console ban section you have a link for.

Turn 10 does not have their own seperate policy because they are under jurisdiction of the Microsoft policies. This is not like IW compared to Activision.

And I never said you didnt report his gamertag. I only said I would report it in a second. I was though suprised you didnt mention it

Your credit card is stored on the MS billing server and no where else. Microsoft also will not ban a credit card unless it was stolen.

As well As Turn 10 cannot do a console ban of the game due to the fact that is only authorized and investigated by Microsoft. Specifically the Xbox Live Policy Enforcement Team.

Take 10 doesnt have their own Terms of Use because they already have Microsofts Terms of Use. If you went to the Forza 4 website and clicked Terms of Use you will find it takes you to the MS Terms of Use directly.

Cheating in a game is not a policy that can ban your console. As well as you will never find one here.

http://forums.xbox.com/xbox_forums/xbox_support/f/2366.aspx

Now I will say this...

Turn 10 is owned by Microsoft but they still dont do console bans and credit card bans. Or the statement that the kid has a modded Xbox that can run online unsigned code.

But I do find it interesting that not only does the school have Xboxes for the kids to play, but the fact that the kids are allowed in school to play a game rated M for mature in school ? Is the school accepting responsibility for kids to play a game that parents dont want their kids playing ? It just seems strange that a school for kids with behavioral problems would allow kids to play a game with Drug References, Intense Violence and Strong Language to be played in their school.

PS the kids in your class that has a modded Xbox, I would report his gamertag to MS in a second.

fifetojo ...

You're right, there's nothing "easy" about raising kids. Sometimes you watch them and know they are about to trip and bust their head open and as much as you want to be able to reach across the room and save them, there's nothing you can do about it. That's hard to do. No one questions that.

But there's far more about being a parent that's tough, too.

Like being a parent and telling your kids "you cheat at school, you're in deep, deep, you do not want to go there trouble" ... and "If I catch you cheating at any game on your console, you're going to not have a console."

And there are going to be rules you forget to tell them before you let them wander off and explore on their own. That's when you tell them, "There are other rules I may have forgotten to tell you. Your common sense is going to tell you if you are likely breaking a rule. If you don't follow that common sense, saying, 'I didn't know 'cause you didn't tell me, Dad,' ain't gonna protect you from getting punished for breaking a rule I did not lay down. Is that clear? Because if it ain't clear, you ain't getting no freedom."

Being a parent is also hard when you have to give up things for the sake of being a good parent. For example, putting together model cars while a tot is in the house just doesn't work. They can swallow plastic parts that get stuck in their throats, they can gurgle glue and drink paint. Point is that being parent is tough in a lot of ways.

And worst of all, it sucks when you see how much it hurts their feelings because you took their game console away from them.

But it is a lesson they will not forget, I promise you that.

Most parents today, however, won't do that. It's too easy to make excuses.

The point is that, while it definitely is not easy, parenting is pretty cut and dried. Kinda like learning to swim. It isn't easy jumping into the deep end, but it's pretty cut and dried: you'll either learn to swim or drown.

But just think of it this way ...

Automobile makers make cars that exceed the 85 mph speed limit out on remote stretches of Interstate 10. Most people will never drive on such highways with such high speed limits.

Doesn't matter, almost every car made can travel at 100 mph or more.

So when you get pulled over in a 20 mph school zone for doing 120 mph, just how do you think the judge is going to respond to the defense ...

"You can't make me pay this ticket. The car makers built the car so that it can go 120 mph. If I'm not supposed to drive that fast, then why did they make a car that could go so fast?"

Please no one say that it isn't the same thing. It most certainly is the same thing. You don't go to jail for driving that fast and you don't go to jail for cheating in a game. But you do pay a penalty in either case.

To give an example of a hurt child however, here is a real one.

My daughter is 1 year old, she has a scar across her right eyebrow because she tripped over her own feet and banged her head off the sub woofer placed at the side of my tv. Now i watched this happen from across the room. Could i have done anything about it? No. Was it my fault? No. Do i feel bad she is scared for life, hell yeah, but these things happen. Maybe that better illustrates my point. You quite simply cannot control your children 100% of the time, and even less so when it comes to a teenager in their own room. You can raise them as best you can, but they will always make their own choices based upon all external influences within their life's. Not just their parents.

Should they choose to glitch in a game, you cant automatically put that down to bad parenting.

To clarify also, i don't recall making an excuse for anyone or anything? I was merely showing an understanding of how these things can come about. I do now though have to sign off from this thread as my children have just arrived home, and require my attention.

I find that terribly insulting. There is neglectful behavior then there is the natural things that happen around a home in order for it to function. By your logic, whilst my children are awake and in my care, i can proceed with no chore around the house that may take my attention away from them for a few minutes. Lets say making them dinner. As a sensible parent i'd much rather they were not near the cooker when preparing this meal for them, so try to get them to stay in the lounge playing with their toys. There's a child safety gate at one exit to this room, and the only other exit is into the kitchen beside me. Now lets say they have their crayons out and draw on the lounge wall (only takes a second). They're only 3 and 1 so still being taught right from wrong, and yes they would be seriously reprimanded for doing that, but kids don't learn just like that. You said yourself it takes years. Does this make me an incapable parent, or neglectful?

Please do not deliberately or otherwise call into question my ability to raise my children again.

However in the nature of debate (not argument), i would still say parenting is NOT as cut and dried as you make out. In order for any person to grow into an individual, they need a certain amount of freedom to grow. Rules and discipline have a place, no question, but how those things are administered is a personal choice.

But most of that has gone off topic. I'll say it again, i do not condone cheating or glitching in anyway, but it's not bad parenting that is the root cause of kids glitching.

fifetojo wrote:

It's unnecessary for you to try to explain the difference between right and wrong, or a treat and an exploitable glitch to me. I do understand the difference. Explain it to someone who does glitch though and they just plain will not care. What preturbs me most about some of the comments is the culture of blame laid at the parents doors because their kid is glitching on a multiplayer video game. Id assume these people don't have teenage children. Its made to sound like these parents have no scruples because they're not lambasting their kids for glitching in a game, when they more than likely had no knowledge of them doing it. I have two toddlers myself, and it's impossible to know what they are upto every second of the day. I can only imagine that knowing what a stroppy teenager is doing in the privacy of their own room to be infinitely harder. if only parenting was a cut and dried as some make out, maybe I'd have a few less grey hairs.

No offense really intended in this post either. Its the only way I can keep my thoughts in some kind of order.

Why would you assume we didnt ? Because you think we CANT control a teenager on a video game ?

Being a parent IS cut and dry. You do something good you get praise. You do something wrong you get nothing. If I say you cant have that toy then you cant have that toy no matter how loud you cry. You wanna cry at toys R Us because I wont give you a toy then you stay home with mom next time I go shopping.

You wanna know how I learned to become a proper parent ? Its called YEARS of growing up with the child. Its not like you just happened to find a puppy on the doorstep and have to learn really fast by the time you have to go to work the next day. You have the age of the child PLUS 9 months to learn how.

If a parent cant lay down they ground rules then that person cant be a parent. As I stated a few pages ago a person CAN control his actions on Xbox Live or in something more major in life..

I wont even give into the discussion of two toddlers whereabout but you apparently didnt read my previous posts that well. No offense but if you dont know what your kids are up to then you shouldnt be a parent. I dont say that to call you out or anything but I have seen children abused by parents who do nothing to take control in their lives. And I have felt this way even before my daughter passed on due to her mothers lack of any sensibility.

Before a kid is 18 legally you are responsible for all of your childs actions.

Lets say your kid gets hurt because you were downstairs, do you think Child Services would have any sympathy for you ?

I already said how simple it is to be a parent just like others have. Talk to your kids and set down the rules. Give them a timeout and force them into a corner.

First time my daughter lied to me I made her sit on a pillow facing the corner for 30 minutes until SHE came to me and told me the TRUE reason why she shouldnt lie to her parents. I watched her favorite movie and would not let her turn her head to see it. That was when she was 5. The fact that she learned was NOT because I sat her in a corner . The reason she learned is because she learned what respect was. And if a parent cannot teach their children to have respect for others AND their parents then they might as well not be a parent.

---------------------------------

You want to know how to keep your kid from doing even a simple cheat on Xbox live ?

First tell them the rules. That is YOUR job as a parent. It even states it on the Xbox Live site.

Second. Draw the line. "If you get banned from Xbox Live for doing ANYTHING they consider wrong then no more Xbox EVER until you....

1) Pay me back for the xbox I bought you.

2) Pay for your Games and a new Gamertag.

3) Start mowing lawns.

They have two options. Not play Xbox or pay themselves. Because if they dont want to pay them there is no physical way they can get back on.

The Lazy answer that a parent cant control their kid is nothing but that. A lazy answer. YOU pay for the service with YOUR credit card so YOU draw the line. Just as if you paid for their cel phone and they went over in minutes 1 month.

You act like its so hard to control something you brought into the world.

You may want to re-read this thread and read the stories of the successful parents here and stop making excuses for something you should have total control over.

You can instill into your kids what is right and what is wrong.

I actually have taught my kids cheating... even in games... is wrong.

I won't let them use built in cheat codes in single player campaigns until they beat the game.
