**If you hold down the melee button for .2 something seconds, the knife works. So if you simply tap the button, the knife will not swing. Basically, it's "tap" protection, so you won't swing a knife when you didn't mean it

or

**If you DOUBLE TAP the melee button, the knife swings.

Although personally, I'd also want to be able to pull the knife out and hold it in front of me, like in that mission of Black Ops, "Victor Charlie". That way my knife slashes would be faster.

~RUGGED SAVIOR

Good idea, if that was to come into the game I think they (Treyarch) would have to come up with an idea to make something happen when you tap the melee button once. I have no idea what this would be though. Still, I like it.

How about it takes 2 hits with the butt of your gun to kill and if you want to 1HK with a knife then you need to attach it to your gun (like the bayonets in WaW) but it counts as an underbarrel attachment?

I don't even understand why/how this phrase popped up.
I remember when people used to call it "knifing." Ahh, those were the days.
It's been in the game since...Call of Duty 4? Everyone is accustomed to it.
Everyone has a knife - so it's perfectly balanced.
The knife lunge has already been reduced too.

Well, I'm just going to assume you said knifing, and are putting forth ideas for a new melee system which is fine. In my opinion, I think it would be a great idea to have a two hit system. But first, the player's health would have to be raised to at least 200. This is a fast paced shooter; quick and easy in particular is the reason why many people pick this game up. If I can kill an enemy with only three bullets in two seconds, when I have a clip of maybe 30-40 bullets, then I think a one hit kill knife is just fine.

Two or more hit melee systems works in games like Halo, Gears, Crysis, whatever, because the health system is raised. I simply do not see it being worthwhile in a game like Call of Duty. Also, I dislike the idea of pulling out the knife as well; it would slow things down and no one would use it as you are at a severe disadvantage running with nothing in your hands while enemies can spray you down from any distance.

*sigh* Just because something has been around for a while doesn't justify its existence. COD 4 was not perfect. The knifing has been a problem for years now.

I'm not necessarily opposed to increasing the COD HP, but it would slow the game down considerably. And the reason most people like COD is because it's a fast-paced twitch shooter. Take that away and it's one step closer to killing COD.

The knife is different. A change in the melee system would not kill COD, nor would it slow the gameplay down considerably.

I like that idea. The delay makes it so melee isnt the wtf insta death it is now, while still allowing for you to go for stealth kills. Like someone else said, if you had to equip your knife, you would never use it [unless absolutely necessary], meaning no stealth kills.

When we press the knife button before them, we still get killed due to 3arc's fake bar connection. Hardcore mode ain't an option since everybody camps their heart out in this mode.

My solution would be a two-hit kill with the regular knife when facing in front of him, and a 1 hit kill when behind him. Ballistic knife kills would always be a 1 hit kill always.
For Black Ops, I find the knife to be pretty screwed. I don't want Stopping Power to return, however when you could have it, you got much less knife BS. I find that Treyarch didn't adjust the knife to fit the 'No Stopping Power'. You seem to get knifed through bullets a lot more because you have to shoot more, simple. A slight delay could be implemented in a patch, but I doubt they will.

^Yet another reason why all the guns in BO should recieve a 1.4x damage bonus. It would make the game much more balanced. But 3arc doesn't care about balance, so...

Like one of the earlier posts said, its a FPS! People should be so reliant on their knife to get a kill. If your creeping behind someone, you can pull out your knife and knife him.

I'm with the OP, if your running around a corner and get knifed, just bad luck right? I think it would make the game alot more "combat-oriented" rather than "Rambo-Oriented". You see someone, you could hit him, which could have effects similar to a concussion nade. You can still hipfire, but your screen is blurry and your moving slower.

I think it would be pretty interesting if they did implement this is the next game. I'm all for this
