Warning! I'm not telling you how to do this. That's right, I'm NOT.

I don't want developers pointing out my thread as a solution for their netcode problems. I want this game fixed by those who made it.

The game is no doubt broken and it requires fixing.

I'm sure that we, players, must not do anything but provide required minimum for good performance. We don't need to do stuff like I did to be required. Call me an *******, I call this bad game support.

At first, I must assure you the thing I did doesn't have anything to do with:

Thirt-party software/hardware

Manipulating quality of your connection

Lag-switching, etc.

This is one hundred percent legal and involves nothing but configuring your router and network settings. It works on any router that has some setting accessible. This works both in Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops 2. Actually, Modern Warfare 3 is now completely playable thanks to Infinity Ward patches. If only Treyarch could do the same. Now, let's get back on the topic.

I've been testing this before and after the patch came out and it works flawlessly.

I managed to eliminate that part lag compensation that obscures actions on my side:

All my hits count. Sometimes there is delay, but if the crosshair was on an enemy, all hits count. I once shot an enemy with a Ballista, opened and closed the bolt, and only then the enemy died.

I'm no longer being shot around corners. When I'm behind cover on my screen, I'm actually behind the cover.

When I throw grenades there is no delay before grenades fly out of my hands.

However, following problems still present:

I'm still behind everyone. If an enemy fires first, I'm dead for sure.

Enemies still jitter in firefights.

You may believe me or not. That's your decision.

In Modern Warfare 3 Bouncing Betties were just fine:

1. You step into the deadzone of a mine

2. A sound is heard

3. Here you can dodge this by going prone

4. The mine goes up and explodes

In Black Ops 2 however, you can't dodge it. It doesn't make a sound when you step into the deadzone. It makes a sound when it's too late. So basically it's a 360 Claymore. Hell, in previous games I could even dodge a Claymore sometimes. But Bouncing Betties in Black Ops 2 is instant death once you hear the click. Every game I have more than 2-3 deaths just from dreaded Bouncing Betties.

A theory about Lag Compensation: Theater

I've been thinking about this since MW3 came out and now after Black Ops 2 here I became more convinced.

First thing you should know is that Treyarch's engine is a fork of IW engine. Now that means that when Treyarch was developing World at War they took IW engine and made some changes. And they still are using this engine, probably making changes in it for every game.

I know this because a IW developer claimed that engines used for Modern Warfare and for Black Ops are completely individual and IW and Treyarch don't share any code between studios. I think it's true in general, but I guess there was an exception I'm going to tell you about further.

But now there is a question: why then we get the same lag in games from both studios? What's common between them?

I think it's Theater mode. My theory is when IW was developing MW3 they borrowed code for theater from Treyarch. And we got same horrible lag in MW3 as it was in Black Ops. And same we're having in Black Ops.

Modern Warfare

IW engine

No theater

No lag

World at War

Treyarch engine

No theater

No lag

Modern Warfare 2

IW engine

No theater

No lag

Black Ops

Treyarch engine

Theater

Lag

Modern Warfare 3

IW engine

Theater

Lag

Black Ops 2

Treyarch engine

Theater

Lag

If I'm right then it's sad news because Thater isn't going anywhere. Shame that Treyarch being so creative couldn't use this idea.
