Why do I die so much?

I have been leveling up all the shotties. I am pretty good with them, but I have a problem.I keep getting more deaths than kills, and I can never hold onto a killstreak, (highest was 16ish). I try to play smart and stick to the edges of the map, but someone always ends up seeing me before I'm in range and killing me, or knifing me from behind. What do I do to get those streaks and not die? Also, if you run into a group of enemies (2-3) and you are using a pump action shotty, how the hell are you supposed to kill them? With a striker or aa-12 sure, but I don't see how its possible with say an 1887.Thanks for the help.

So what your saying is........I'm screwed? Because I really wanna get good. There was a few games where this one guy got a moab ever other game, and we were playing against GOOD people. I wanna be really good P.S. I'm not an Xboxer, only got a PC.

Quick Question. Got MW3 over the weekend, and now I'm lvl 63. I have been using the shotgun cause I really like shotguns. Got the aa-12 to lvl 30, and I am working on the model 1887. I'm dominating the scoreboard, but I have a problem. I get like 15+ deaths every game. I try to stay near cover, and sneak around. But right when I start getting a streak I get shot in the back, or some guy out of my shotgun range sees me and then takes me out with his assault rifle. Is this normal? The automatics were a bit easier to use, but I like shotguns. However, at this rate, is it even possible to get a moab with a shotgun? Please give me some tips about how to stay alive and get more kills with my shotties. Thanks

AA-12 FIX IT PETITION

*Sigh*........the aa-12.......you have ruined it Infinity Ward. I know you want to balance the shotguns, but all you have done is make the aa-12 horrible and the striker the absolute best. Not to say I do enjoy playing with the aa-12, but it needs a buff. This may sound biased, but aa-12 should be at least as good as the other shotguns, if not the best. In real life, the aa-12 is THE most devastating shotgun in the world. It should be a bit overpowered.
