Xbox720/Durango/Fusion/Infinity∞ Reveal

Finally, we have reached the point in which the final piece of the next-gen console puzzle falls gently into place, giving us and idea of what the next 5 - 10 years will look like in the gaming world.

To recap what we have seen so far in the eighth console generation that started with the WiiU launch in 2011;

- The WiiU has kind of fallen flat so far with a lack of games, serious concerns over its hardware performance, and a lack of consumer interest that made the Wii so successful. Never count Nintendo out though as they always have something up their sleeve...

- The announcement of the PS4 in Feburary has certainly gotten everyone excited. So far, we have only gotten a few glimpses at what it can do and have only really seen the PS4's controller. Either way, the console looks to be powerful and certainly not short on features. It also Sony seems to be pushing for a social gaming agenda with all of the social features they are adding into the PS4. Not sure how the social aspects will turn out just yet, so we'll wait and see.

And now Microsft is ready to reveal their replacement to the Xbox360 and answer to Sony's PS4.

The rumor mill has been speeding along for the past 3 or so years over what the nextbox will include, can do, and won't do. Tomorrow's Microsoft press confrence will hopefully answer many questions we have and help many of us decide what next-gen console we will be purchasing (if any). Below is a list of rumors that have been common over the past 3 or so years.

Next Xbox Rumors

- Speculation about the price, ranges from $250USD - $500USD

- As for a launch date, you can bet your bottom dollar it will be on store shelves before Thanksgiving in the US

- Technical specs may include: an AMD eight-core x64 1.6GHz CPU, an 800 Mhz GPU that supports Direct3D 11.x, and 8GB of DDR3 RAM. Other leaks point to a Blu-ray disc drive and dedicated processors for things like video compression and 7.1 surround sound.

- Microsoft owns several patents for a scalable, modular hardware system that would easily allow for multiple versions of the system with different capabilities.

- There are reports that the system will include a direct hookup for a cable box or satellite dish, allowing for integration with the world of live TV through more than just Internet apps.

- Ultra HD (google "4k TVs" for those who don't know about UHD) support or stereoscopic 3D support may be major features

- Possible follow-up to the Kinect (Kinect 2.0?)

- The next Xbox may put an increased focus on the smartphone and tablet integration

- While playing games is the whole point of new console hardware, there's some reason to believe that tomorrow's event will focus more on pure hardware features rather than major new game announcements, despite the fact that Microsoft has said that they have 7 new, unannounced games.

- A teaser for a new Halo game is possible tomorrow

- A new franchise that shows off the potential of a new Kinect will likely make a brief appearence

- Reports that Microsoft's next system will use some method to block the play of used games have been circulating for more than a year now.

- Always online internet connection has been another long running rumor that has been tied in the with no used games rumor multiple times. Despite the pervasivness of the rumor, it is quite possibly untrue given the recent Microsoft memo suggesting that things like playing single-player games, watching Blu-ray movies, and playing live TV through the next Xbox should "just work," even when the system is offline.

- There have also been reports of a new, much cheaper and smaller Xbox360 that will be announced alongside the next xbox. Likely a last effort to squeeze out a last few good sales numbers from the 360.

- EA and Activision may be planning some sort of exclusives or timed exclusives with the next xbox

What to Expect in Tomorrow's Breifing

- The next generation xbox

- EA and Activision WILL be present at the event. Expect some info on FIFA 13 and CoD: Ghosts

- The press has been promised an opportunity to "get up close and personal with the new generation via interactive experiences." This could mean anything

- The breifing will likely be performance focused and aimed at the hardcore audience

- You will probably see what the next Xbox will look like (Unlike in the PS4 breifing)

- Expect Microsoft to pitch why their console is better than the PS4 and also expect Sony to issue a response not long after the presentation

On a side note, tech blog Ars Technica has established the odds for the name of the next console

Kyle Orland of Ars Technica said,

"The latest odds from Ars Technica's resident bookmakers:
Xbox Infinity: 6 to 4
Xbox (no modifier): 5 to 1
Xbox 8 (tying in with Windows [Phone] 8): 100 to 1
Durango (the internal development code name): 500 to 1
Xbox 720 (or any other multiple of 360): 1,000 to 1
NeXtBox: 1,000,000 to 1, and you also get to punch me square in the face (it will distract me from the utter stupidity of the console's name)"

Tomorrow's briefing will be availble on Spike TV, xbox.com, and xbox live via the live event viewer at 10:00 am PDT (1:00 PM EST)

So, what do you all think? Will the next xbox be something you'll get? Will it live up to the hype? Will it pale in comparison to the PS4? Will it print money?

Things have actually begun to pick up around here. Some of the old vets stop by every so often and some of the fresh blood has finally brought some life back into the OT. I'd been pretty much inactive for the past year, but I decided to get back into things here and try and help maintain activity in the OT. I'm sorry you won't stick around; wish you would, another vet around here would be a good change in pace, but life is life and you gotta do what you gotta do. Just try and stop by every once in a while if you can. The castle doors will always be open for ya.

Breif Explanation of OT Forum Clans

Usually born out of something being declared exessivily overpowered that is being discussed by frequent posters to the Off Topic board. GRaS came about on the old Charlie Oscar Delta site from the oldest forum members discussing how the grass on some maps in CoD 4 were completely invincible to bullets and you could use the grass to shield yourself. There are a few other forum clans that died off such as mP40 from W@W and LEaF from MW2. Below is a brief history/bit of info about the more prevalent clans that operate here.

GRaS

There are a couple of members of GRaS that will pop in on occasion and troll a few people, but for the most part, you won't see much in the way of GRaS membership any more, mostly you hear tails of their exploits. They were founded on the old Charlie Oscar Delta site (CoD 4 Era) by a forum member called Lord Ragius (or some derivitive of that). Born from the discussion about the overpoweredness of grass, GRaS was founded.

- SnakeDoctor# (or just SnakeDoc#); early member, possible founder, ocasionally stops by

- PictureFrame; last member to be added, though we are unsure his membership was ever confirmed, ocasionally stops by

VuVu

I am proud to say that I am a member of VuVu, the second oldest clan on this OT forum. VuVu was founded after the World Cup in S. Africa in which the Vuvuzela became infamous. A few of the older veterans from the W@W days along with newer OT patrons from MW2 and Blops1 founded VuVu on the Vuvuzelas are Overpowered thread. VuVu was meant to be a challenger to the GRaS at a time when they were becoming more and more distant from the forums and many OTers were tired of not having their own group since GRaS rarely accepted new members.

SaND

SaND is a much newer clan of whom I am not quite as acquainted with. It was founded recently (Blops2 Era) after many veterans of the OT left the site when it was overhauled after the release of MW3. SaND is attempting to fill a void left by many members of the "god ol' days" leaving the OT a ghost of its former self. Till this day, the OT is still not the same. Its too quiet... I've come back to try and help change that and I believe SaND is trying to do the same thing, stir up some activity.

What is this thread?

The castle is a tradition I started back in the World at War days when I was more active and I'm brining it back to help boost OT Forum moral and generate activity. Simply this is a general discussion thread, however since our moderators tend to want us to have a thread with more purpose than just "general discussion", I have random jobs made available to anyone who wants them to help give the castle a direction. Yes, the Castle is just like Whoes Line is it Anyways, Everything is made up and the jobs don't matter. The jobs are like the tip jar in McDonalds... you get the idea. Feel free to join in and become a part of an old off topic section tradtion!

Will you stand the test of time? A question which neither you or I can answer. Only the most powerful force in the universe can answer that question; that being time. Will WInD falter and dissipate like so many others that I have witnessed from the very beginning of this website, or will WInD rise and be worthy of being noted next to GRaS and VuVu? Time will answer this question, for it is the final arbiter on all things that are recorded in history.

Being amongst the oldest members of this forum, who has been here since this site was called "Charlie Oscar Delta", I will watch sielently from the background and note time's affect. I will be prepared to do as I have always done since I joined this forum back in 2007, record the history that has withstood the test of time.

A birth of a new forum clan. I shall watch to see if WInD will be worthy of being recorded in the archives of CoD OT history, or if they should be forgotten like mP40 or LEaF. Only time will tell.
