Business Related Decisions.

Throughout the years of Call of Duty, I realized something. Since the game is becoming so popular, there are features that I hate the most that are still present within the games. Despite their flaws and how they upset the balance and flow of multiplayer, their ever growing popularity allow those features to remain alive and well. Here are some examples of what I believe are those same upsetting features:

Quickscoping - A trend that started in COD4 and became popular in MW2. Inspired kids to look cool and raised the bar on Call of Duty's popularity. However, this ultimately destroyed the balance of the sniper rifle by making it a one hit kill weapon at ANY RANGE. So why keep it? More profit can be made based on its popularity, and since Call of Duty grows ever so popular, more methods of acquiring dough have to be performed.

Dropshotting - Again, a popular feature in Call of Duty. A (near) exploit that looks cool that is advertised among the pros, despite it being an extremely cheap method of play. We never liked how people could "blopshot" with Second Chance, yet dropshotting is exactly the same thing--only with more health, deadlier weapons, and it can easily be performed at any time. Hell, even modded controllers were made to allow a one button dropshot. Don't believe me? Google it!

Reward System - Let's face it, the reward system isn't going to dramatically change any time soon. The whole idea of Call of Duty's reward system is to amass a large killstreak without dying. It's been that way from COD4 to Black Ops 1, and it hasn't changed much even during MW3 and Black Ops 2. Objective players are the minority, while Slaying and K/D is more demanding. Why? Again, it's based on popularity, which the franchise needs to offer in order to become a growing success.

So you basically get the idea. When a game becomes more popular to the point where making a profit is more important, the ideas of balance and equality are thrown out of the window. Until I can hear from a developer denying everything I said, I will continue to believe that Activision is continuing to tighten the leash around the developers.

P.S. - I definitely want to know why quickscoping was left untouched in Black Ops 2, considering the devs were entirely against it in Black Ops 1.

~RUGGED SAVIOR

The feedback that I mentioned was to balance the game. However, If that feedback goes against the popular feature, then the feedback is taken out of the equation--even if the feedback was a great idea while the popular feature is completely unbalanced.

It's like saying steroids should be legal in sports. Despite it being immoral and completely wrong, it would end up being legal should it be popular enough to allow the companies to bring in A LOT more profit. I know it's far fetched, but you get the concept I hope.

~RUGGED SAVIOR

It's about preserving the balance of the weapon itself. A sniper's balance is to be highly effective long range weapons, while suffering at closer ranges. But with quickscoping, this logic is flawed or non-existent.

In addition, as I previously stated in an earlier page, quickscoping is effective due to how non-snipers/shotguns take a few shots to kill an opponent, thus giving the quickscoper enough time to place a single shot while taking damage. Since most quickscopers use "toughness", the damage flinch is hardly an inconvenience, and accuracy is preserved.

The Black Ops 1 "bobble sway", as I like to call it, was that moment where the crosshairs of the sniper scope go from being all over the place, to steady in half a second or less. As a result, this gimped the sniper's ability to quickscope effectively compared to MW2, MW3, and BOII. Either in a late patch or applied to a future Call of Duty title, quickscoping should be gimped to where the bobble sway returns, in addition to the bobble sway itself becoming stronger should the user scope in while moving or standing. In addition, after the bobble sway goes away, the sniper's initial sway is dramatically reduced.

In other words, nerf the quickscoping, and buff the hardscoping. Preserve the weapon's balance by giving it more meaning to snipe effectively the way it was intended. I'm not saying close range kills with a sniper should be impossible (hell, I get lucky sometimes), but it should definitely be more difficult compared to what I see today.

~RUGGED SAVIOR

Black Ops 1 did a decent job to nerf this ability by adding a "bobble sway" when scoping in during the first half second, and it should have been re-introduced and improved upon in Black Ops II. I've asked Vonderhaar via Twitter why quickscoping was allowed in Black Ops II, but I've yet to get an answer. My guess is that keeping QS was a business related decision to produce more profit.

In addition, you are correct in regards to how other weapons fare against a sniper. Yes a sniper may take longer to aim, but the compensation occurs with other non-shotgun/sniper weapons' taking 2-5 shots to kill a target. As a result, it gives a quickscoper plenty of time to place a clean shot while taking damage (with no flinch should they use toughness).

~RUGGED SAVIOR
